gluten-free Eating In Cape May Or West Cape May Nj

I am hoping we have nice warm weather while we are there. The temps keep getting warm than chilly. I guess in PA we should expect that. We are going to hit Cape May when we get there in the late morning-and stay until 2:30. Check-in at our hotel is 3. My best friend is a great photographer and she is going to take a nice picture of John and I on the beach with the lighthouse in the background. My mom wants a nice picture of all her daughters/signifigant others which is recent.

We want to shop in Cape May. I am hoping to get another purse. I bought a real cute one last year but I tore it when I needed something in a hurry one day. We are leaving Harrisburg at 7am that morning.

How was traffic heading down there? I would think it would not be as hectic as during the summer season.

We are leaving on Saturday morning. We stay in Wildwood at a hotel we have always stayed at for years now. The weather still looks good for the weekend. I am hoping it stays that way. Nothing worse than a soggy beach. It usually takes us about 1 and 1/2 hrs to get to the Norristown exit of the turnpike, then we take the Walt Witman across into Jersey. So it will take us over 3 hours but thats ok. Much worth the wait.

Hi Judy!!!

I am so sorry I forgot to respond, here's the details.

Cape May was great, it was right back to work and the hospital has been nuts so I didn't even get a chance to reply in that thread. The weather was great and I even was in the ocean. It rained while we were on the boardwalk. I was bitten by a large hermit crab while on the boardwalk and for 5 minutes the store owners could not get him unlatched, he was on my palm. I still have the marks from where he bit in, it got swollen and was very painful for a few days.

We ate at the Ugly Mug, and I enjoyed a great meal. We cooked at the condo before we went to the boardwalk, prices are outrageous there. I did get dippin dots though.

There were some moments of tension between my friend and the rest of us. In a way I was ready to come home.

I guess I am starting up an old post. I am going to my brothers tomorrow, in Gilbertsville, and we are leaving early Sat. to spend the day in Cape May. From reading all of your posts, which have been extremely helpful, we have decided to try the Belle Vida. Maybe I will have a chance to try the gluten-free bread. What a nice treat to have in a restraunt. I thought those days were over!!!!! I was hoping someone might give us an idea of where the restraunt is located. That will give us more time for shopping and hitting the water!!!

I will write back and let you know how the weekend went. Also a Pennsylvanian, from the Williamsport area, I was wondering if anyone has shopped at the Gluten Free Source located in Dillsburg. I was hoping to find out if it was worth the trip. We are going a bit out of our way while traveling to Gilbertsville and eating at the Powerhouse Eatery. I was told they will accomadate the Gluten Free diet. I believe that the owner's wife has celiac. I will update everyone on that as well. I greatly appreciate this post and hope I can find directions before we take off. Nice chatting with everyone. :P

I was taking Benefiber for my IBS-C before my celiac diagnosis. It does say Gluten Free but lists Wheat Dextrin on the label. I really dont like psyllium fiber, so is there anything else I can take or is the Benefiber really ok for someone with Celiac disease?  Thanks!!!

Abdominal pain and an itchy stomach were the symptoms I asked to see a GI about. Now I’ve learned these other symptoms—that I have but attributed to other issues—could also be related to celiac disease:  fatigue joint pain canker sores numbness or tingling in hands or feet difficulty with coordination anemia headaches neutropenia I never dreamed in a million years she would consider celiac disease. It was a shock to me. It’s definitely not what I went to her for.

@Rejoicephd, I'm not a doctor, but I experienced severe thiamine deficiency.  Your symptoms seem really familiar.  Malabsorption is a real thing that happens with Celiac.  A multivitamin is not going to prevent nor correct nutritional deficiencies.    Doctors do not recognize nutritional deficiency symptoms.  Gastrointestinal Beriberi is not recognized often.  Caused by thiamine deficiency, high dose thiamine supplements or IV administration with other vitamins, minerals and glucose under doctor's care is needed.   Thiamine deficiency is found in anemia.  Thiamine deficiency in the kidneys can result in electrolyte imbalances and cloudy urine.  Thiamine deficiency can cause high blood sugar which can cause cloudy urine.  Dehydration can cause cloudy urine.   I'm linking some PubMed articles.  You see if your symptoms match.  Discuss the possibility of Gastrointestinal Beriberi with one of your specialists soon!  Just to rule it out.  I'm very concerned.   I'm linking some PubMed articles.  You see if your symptoms match.   Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/#ref3 From Section 3: "In conclusion, TD limited to the gastrointestinal system may be an overlooked and underdiagnosed cause of the increasingly common gastrointestinal disorders encountered in modern medical settings. Left unattended, it may progress to wet or dry beriberi, most often observed as Wernicke encephalopathy.". . And... Refeeding Syndrome https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK564513/

What are your symptoms? What has brought you to the point where you sought celiac disease testing?

Thanks so much. This is what I thought but really wanted a second opinion. I appreciate this.
