Dear scotty,

ROFLMAO! Ah, poo slang...a forgotten genre of writing. Here is a new one for you ----Casper Crap. It is what happens when you do a barium procedure! Seriously, those tirds could glow in the dark! It is scary!

I work at home, so I am fortunate enough to be able to go to the bathroom more often. However, I get interupted all of the time, because my parents are too lazy to go downstairs to use the other bathroom. I swear to you, I could wait all day for them to pee, and finally I would sit down to go, and within a few minutes, they are already wanting in there. It is so annoying! Learn to walk, people!

When you fart, it is like "I have no idea where that came from!" :P Our dog always tells on us. He is afraid of farts. My mother traumatized him. She farted on him once while he was laying up on the sofa with her.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

Soy is not good on the IC diet. Corn is ok unless you are intolerant.

we have one of them farting dogs too; but really the dog's are worse than mine. he has bladder problems more recently in the last year here. weird huh. he would pee in the bathroom here. so we have to let him out in the yard every few hours now and he can't get enough water. which leads to question i actually wanted to bring up before i got side-tracked with fecal humor...how important is it to seperate gluten-free and non-GFers in the kitchen. i mean does the steam and grease trickle back down from the roasting kitchen heights to contaminate our dishes and silverware and perhaps food--oh did i mention i live at home here as well with mother and step-father; that might help in understanding where i am headed with this--no reagrd! no consideration! my step-father is a diabetic so meals are right here! right now! when that shot gets in. needless to say my mother pretty much does the kitchen duties and leaves pots pans dishes and whatnots just corroded around taking care of him. i kind of have my own stuff--storing rice in tupperware that have only ever had rice. plates. a mug (yes just one like i said i hardly drink much with leaking and such, but trying more). pots. pans. little corner on the shelves. are mine my little spaces. save for sharing silverware--yada yada yada--how careful do i need be ya think?

had another question too-- oh poo--forgot

Dear scotty,

Our dog is afraid of farts! My mother farted on him! Now he is traumatized! He raises his leg up on everything, even after we take him out. Yorkies do this. Everyone I spoke to who owns one said the same thing. They are stubborn. They refuse to do what they are trained to do.

As far as how important it is to separate gluten-free stuff from non-gluten-free stuff, it is extremely important. I live at home as well, and my parents do not take it as seriously as they should, either. I have fixed it so I have little dot stickers I put on my condiments so my parents know not to use them. My cookware has been victimized at times, but I have come up with a solution for that, too. My suggestion is, so your utensils and cookware cannot be contaminated is get a plastic storage tub like Rubbermaid, and put your cookware in that when it is not in use. Then, no crumbs or flour dust can get in or on it. A speck of the stuff can prevent you from healing. I am Celiac, and highly sensitive to the point a microscopic amount makes me violently ill. I have no choice but to be careful. Honestly, I really feel you cannot be too careful.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

P.S. Sorry I cannot help you with your other question. I do not know as much about the IC Diet.

Corn chips are fine on the IC diet, but I would eat them spareingly on the candida diet. I tend to favor popcorn, because it has lots of fiber. Some candida diets I have seen says they are ok and some say no. I did the candida diet ( a very strict version and almost wasted away). I have seen less strict ones that I may try again - it did allow sweet potatoes and popcorn in moderation. I know how you feel. I need to have snacks. There are only so many raw veggies you can munch on and be satisfied. Almonds and cashews are usually ok on IC diet and candida diet. I alway munch on veggies during the day, but at night in front of the tube I really like some popcorn!

i must have misread. our dog, same one with a urinary problem is afraid of water. he will skip and dash around puddles when it is raining. he will get to the end of leash if he has to just to avoid; while the other dog, she just trounces right on through like she makes it more splashy on purpose--

perhaps my own set of silverware is good idea. my parents do care but by the time it comes to eatin the kitchen is a disaster. my mom will occasionally wash my stuff and wash it all first god bless her. if i had the energy i would just have my own place again. mmmsomeday--i will have to figure ways to be more careful til then. it's so hard to tell if i am glutened when i know i have not had any or i am just still destroyed and unable to handle certain things. this warmer weather here gets me more thirsty and that just leads me to the toilet though--i just need a huge drink though sometimes and i don't care!!

Dear scotty,

Our dog does not like being splashed. He likes to drink out of the faucet, though. It is so funny! He has a thing about it. We used to have a Standard Schnauzer who loved mud. She liked to swim, and would even dunk her whole head underwater! However, she hated being bathed!

If you could get your own set of silverware, do so. I have been using the same silverware we always have, but it does make me nervous. I wonder if I should get my own as well. I wish I could move out on my own. Then I would not have to worry about cross-contamination at all! It is great your mother will wash your dishes. That is very thoughtful! I am the only one who does any dishes around here! I just cannot stand to leave things sit! Make sure you have your own sponge and towels for the kitchen. You can get sick from that as well. I know how overwhelming all of this is, but it is for our own good we go to such measures. Being organized helps, though. If everything goes right through you, you probably are thirsty all of the time from the diarrhea. Many people before they were gluten-free had excessive thirst due to dehydration. Some Celiacs are also diabetic. You may want to check that out, if you have not already.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

i got my own sponge and towel and all. Palmolive i guess is ok? i just wonder about all the cooking that gets into the air. you should the old chewed up drop ceiling tiles in there. makes me wonder if specs filter onto everything. mom usually does "heavy" cooking. good old americans here. no dieting or nothing, even with my step-dad as a diabetic (by the way have used his tester and been fine sugar wise--doc said it was fine too for some bloodwork i had done; so i am alright there <for now>) even with him being diabetic, just makes him eat more; and he is mexican--quite a few mexican dishes get made. it's not like there is a coat of grease over evrything like in a mexican restauraunt kitchen...but i just wonder. there is just no room other than the system we got.

it's funny how we are waiting to heal. waiting to see if what we keep eating really bothers cuz today we just can't tell what it is...we've been waiting our whole lives to, in the back of our heads 'oh it's just this' or 'oh it's just that' thinking i will be fine again in a few days. now that the crystal horizon is out there the waiting has diminshed to minutes, for food to settle in or go through; for energy to come or surpass; for a chance to do something we actually want to do today cuz tomorow we may be wobbling again, and shut-in, waiting again

Dear scotty,

I can eat a whole bag of popcorn and have no trouble! It seems to set better than some other things. It really has a lot of fiber, too. I eat Act II Light Microwave Popcorn. I cannot afford organic foods, but if I could I would get them. ;) They are natural and not genetically modified. The GMOs are dangerous. Our bodies were not meant to consume them. If you decide to eat veggies, make sure they are fully cooked. If they are raw, they are more difficult to digest.

Dear loraleena,

That sounds delicious! I wish I had some! I love popcorn! I could eat a ton of it! Whenever I do have any, I can eat an entire bag's worth by myself! It does not irritate my stomach, either.

alright it just seems like popcorn is a "heavy" food and it is good anyway so i got to try, but no butter yet. when you have been eating rice for year and nothing else hell a stick of sugar free gum sounds exotic and very satiable. besides my experiences with popcorn "back in the day" are gut-wrenching--

on another note...how about Gatorade for IC? it is replenishing but i think it is making me break up in the stools. maybe i drank too much on that hot day 2 days ago. and i still ahve not recovered not sure. i rotated my diet and do not like the canned chicken or perhaps the Gatorade has ruined me. i can't make it 5 days with that chicken. it's gone!! it's cooled i think the GAtorade can wait too.

i buy organic cuz regular foods just terrify me to no end. it's like you can't pinpoint what's bothering when they put so much crap in them. at least that is how i have felt for the past few years now. it is good to know they can be safe. red meat makes me uncertain. i still think something else is going on in there. like i said the chicken or the Gatorade threw me off what was turning around...? everytime i ate yesterday it made me tired and weak, feel more hungry. i hate when that happens, makes my face pale and drain like sucking down to the bones i can feel it. on good days food at least lasts a little bit. sometimes when i eat and get the sluggishness i move to get it going. times it helps times it worsens--oh what dread deep in the bowels of my existence!!!

Dear scotty,

If you find something bothers you, I would say forgo it. You know what your body tolerates. I agree that if you are eating organic and do a rotation diet, that is smart. There are way too many ingredients in foods that are processed. You will have no idea how to pinpoint what is actually irritating your system. I think you have taken a wise approach. I do not know why Gatorade would not agree with you, but maybe it is the dyes. People with Candida are sensitive to them. I get nasty rashes from food dyes, and always have. The chicken may not be tolerable. I know people can be allergic to it as well as eggs. However, the beef is something you should try. I feel better when I eat it. I may be anemic, so that would explain a lot. I wish I could afford organic, but I have to buy what I can afford.

Sincerely,

i don't think i am allergic to chicken itself--just that kind which makes it strange why i can't. i eat this other packaged stuff quite fine. the Gatorade gave a familiar feeling (unless it was the chicken...? or combination) but i think is from the energy Gatorade contains or something. i will try it again sometime soon here to be sure. but it was like vitamins; after periods of not taking any i would take some on account of maybe a sore throat or feeling of a cold coming on, a sense that i just needed some. i would take half of a children's one more recently; but in the past same thing happened--at first, revived and stimulated my system, made me feel good, felt them absorb throughout; then, next day maybe or 2 days afterward some affect of not absorbing anything took over. i always imagine it as the vitamins actually made it through my system having needed and absorbed them and now i need to get rid of the waste, like that sits in my or drains to my bowels and is very difficult for me to hold and break furhter down or store or whatever until proper disposal takes place. same thing with whole grains (like whole wheat for instance) or nuts even fruits, sometimes they kick real good and energize me; sometimes they go right through. when they energize though the after effects seem that something is literally draining me; all else goes through until i literally vomit out my ass!! just awful, sometimes it is a scramble and i make it to a half way decent stool, sometimes it seems like the slightest touch of water even will :o but it always seems to go like that when i refrain from them for the longest time and just a nibble...i remember when i was younger it was like i had too much energy at times, felt giddy, felt the anxiety butterflies in my stomach like the food was eating through so fast i had to run or something just to keep up otherwise it would burn a hole in me

Dear scotty,

I think the sugar in the Gatorade might set off the runs. However, the chicken may not agree with you all the time. It may be one of those things where you can tolerate it once in a while. Rotating your foods helps prevent you from developing new food allergies. I had the same trouble you were talking about before going gluten-free. I could eat whole grains sometimes, but a lot of times, they went straight through me or made me ill. I would have energy some days, then others felt like I had been run over by a train.

Your bowels can react to water that way. My mother if she drinks too much tea, will get the runs.

Sometimes too much moisture is bad. I was practically crapping out everything I ate when I had my gallbladder in. It went straight through me. I do not have such trouble now. I was still pooping some things out looking way too much like they did when they went in, though. That was from malabsorption.

I still have some of that, but not like it was.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

thats funny too much moisture; when all i ever hear is drink plenty of water--argh!! oh screw it i need a new transmission and radiator in there

now i am curious about this gallbladder problem...i am having a little shall i say irritation in the upper middle of my back, right in the center like on the spine; i will say in line with the bottom of the shoulder blades, scapula i believe officially...like if i straighten back it compresses this ball of pain which is not unbearable but like something is there seomtimes. i do have heavy lifting to do at work; but i have always had heavy lifting and i don't strain; hell i use the machine sometimes when i don't have to. how about this: here at the computer with my crappy chair i sometimes hunch a bit and right at the hunchback is sore like a soar muscle. used to be most irritated on mornings i'd wake up and (let me choose from the list here--this is great) take the kids to the pool--of course the kids all in a hurry and ornery as hell, practically clawing at me to go--but those mornings i would pretty much spend on the computer and the sore would just get awful i know it is not ergonomically correct, but it is not bad now (good day yeah!!)...although the irritation or spot whatever the hell it is man it's definitely noticeable still at the moment--god i hate to go back to that doctor or try a new one and not get a good one...

oh and i remember the other question the from the other day--Don't canned fruits and veggies especially the non-organic ones i assume you eat, don't they have gluten i thought i read somewhere to avoid them?

Dear scotty,

I know what you mean! Sometimes I think I need a body transplant! That would solve everything! There is no way anything would go wrong if everything was new! Knowing my luck, the parts would not be made right, and there would be a recall!

The gallbladder can cause pain in your back. It tends to hurt under your ribcage on the right side of your stomach. You get a lot of gas and belching. I used to get terrible stomach cramps as well.

Every time I ate, I would have to go to the bathroom. High fat foods particularly cause it to be bad, but after a while, it got so bad, no matter what I ate, it hurt me. Finally, the diarrhea stopped and so did a lot of the excruciating stomach cramps after it was removed. It also will give you the worst acid reflux. It will feel like you swallowed Hell and it wants out! :o:(

Regarding the canned fruits and vegetables, you can eat some of them. Wal-Mart's Great Value Brand is labeled gluten-free! I get mostly those. However, Del Monte's canned fruits and vegetables are safe as well. I called them. They also sent me a full list of their safe products for Celiacs and coupons! ;)

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

i got so many different pains and discomforts i'm not sure where it comes from. but i do have the reflux. i a pain on the left side (my left--right looking at me)say where my ovaries are haha. how about just inside the upper portion of me pelvis. whatever used to get a knot there. and one on the other side...whoa those were bad. diet has subsided them. not sure about the right side i think that might been your liver hurting from what research i have done...my seems more to the left. i can push over there though--on the right side benath the armpit--just now in fact--little soreness???? sometimes sprawls across the entire middle of my back. i'm like you i can't afford things either. organic stuff seemed eminent. maybe not down the road here. gimme a knife real quick i'ma cut this f#@$er outta here, see if it helps

i've got to figure in this IC factor. would explain the intolerance to fruits, viamins and drinks in general which most contain citric acid or HFCS (high-fructose corn syrup) like Gatorade. i guess; sometimes i make up my own hypothesees ><

or if they gave us new parts. they'd be generic, cheapos, display models, dollar store variety packs-- :P

Dear scotty,

Reflux and pain can be caused by hernias. Have you been checked for one? They can cause pain all over the place! However, the gallbladder can give you gas so bad, it can make you hurt all over. That is what it did to me. The gallbladder could cause your liver to hurt. It is part of the hepatobialary system. When it cannot function properly, your liver cannot either. I have met people who had gallbladder problems and the doctors missed them because they rely too heavily on the tests (which have an accuracy rate of a mere 33 percent at best!) develop liver and kidney problems, as well as pancreatitis. The woman I met at the surgeon's had a feeding tube in her belly button because this happened to her. She told me I was making the right decision getting it out! Talk about a sign from God! ROFLMAO! You probably couldn't damage yourself any worse taking it out yourself than if you wait on one of those geniuses in a labcoat to figure out what is wrong! :P As far as food goes, I have to buy what I can afford. Thank God for Wal-Mart!

The IC factor is a good possibility. You could try the diet, and see. The worst that could happen is you do not feel better. I do not always tolerate HFCS either. It does not always agree with me. I can eat corn, and I am fine. However, the syrup is too sweet and irritates my stomach. It makes me queasy sometimes. Dad says it tends to do that to him as well. :(

It would be our luck we would get lousy body part replacements! We would probably get factory rejects or something! Our arms would fall off, and all kinds of other weird things. Oh no!

Where did my toe go? Crap! I need to oil my shoulder again!

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

Scotty,

I am a bit confused. Your original post talked about bladder issues and peeing a lot, I thought. It seems most of your posts talk about bowel issues. Do you have both. IC would just involve the bladder, though constipation is common and can exaserbate it. Gatorade is bad for IC due to the citric acid.

i got more problems down there then a train wreck at rush hour!! <rimshot>

what i was trying to explain was that i have urination problems which seem unordinary or beyond other things--hoping everyone with celiac disease here would just say 'yeah don't worry it passes once gluten is removed'; what is causing it i don't know. seems not so common. all that i know is they coincide. poop and piss. if something is going to disagree with me digestively it usually (75%) kind of twists up my bladder or wherever, sometimes the sides churn...usually wants to pee out first. somethings more extreme than others obviously. but that same stuff once peed out here and there cuz of the discomfort will then roll over to BIG s$#&s.

i guess i did not explain thouroughly; i don't pee alot persay; someitmes i feel like i have to; like i just peed and something still in the tip of my penis...like food as it turns to gastric juices or whatever inside my body, instead of going to me and my circulation, just heads--goes to my urine sensation. even after BIG s$#&s will sit at my penis tip...kind of hard to pinpoint what is wrong--sorry :(

GLUTEN-FREE the way to be!!! (though)

It doesn't sound a whole lot like IC when you describe it like that. Do you have bladder discomfort? Just so you know if you have bowel discomfort it can make the bladder worse, or sometimes bladder discomfort feels like bowel. YOur bladder is lower down right above the pubic region. My pain is usually from the middle towards the left side. Do you feel that you still need to pee even after you go? I am thinking it may be more that your bowels are messed up and maybe making your bladder more irritated? If it is candida, that can get into your bladder as well as the bowels. Have you looked into other food allergies? What do you eat in a typical day?

She should be tested for 25(OH)D vitamin D blood level.  Most newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease are disturbingly low.  Malabsorption syndrome causes poor dietary absorption of vitamin D orally and super high sunscreens block skin production.  Hypervitminosis D which nearly every article written warns of, is a very rare disease. Many these days drink bottled water so do not get the benefit of floridation.  I had lots of cavities as a kid and when they floridated the water I stopped getting cavities.  Of course in those days all we had for sunscreen was baby oil and that "don't be a paleface" stuff, so we actually got vitamin D from the sun.  Celiac Disease uses a lot of vitamin D to control the immune system response to gluten, but we don't get enough. Iodine can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease, and may be more effective when used in combination with fluoride.  Get her medium urinary iodine concentration (Muic) tested for iodine intake deficiency.  In the last 30 years iodine levels have fallen by 50% in the United States.

When my son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 1976 as soon as he was weaned, his doctor insisted that we feed him only Nutramigen it was the only hyperallergenic with complete nutrition.  Enfamil and Similac were not acceptable if we wanted him to get healthy.  For one thing they had no  choline back then. Given the lawsuits against them now, he was right. He spent about 6 months on the Nutramigen formula exclusively and weaned off of that to a gluten free diet and thrived. He also predicted that by kindergarden the teacher would beg us to put him on Ritalin, which he took all the way through High School.

Check the label and tell us what kind of B12 is in your gummies.   If it's Cyanocobalamin, switch to a methylated (active) form of B12.   Some of us need to take the active form of B12 because our bodies have problems turning other forms of B12 into the active methylated form due to MTHFR genetic variations.   Take a B Complex supplement, too, because B12 needs the other B vitamins to function properly.

Hi! I've been gluten free for years. No surgery,  but have dumping syndrome symptoms,  particularly if I've eaten a lot of FODMAP foods, or xanthan gum, or any other gums that are in many gluten free foods. You may want to stop eating foods with gums and see if that helps!

@Zoe26, Has he been checked for vitamin deficiencies?    Is he pulling up to standing position?  Does he crawl? I ask because delayed development can be associated with nutritional deficiencies.   Having a hoarse low voice is symptomatic of Thiamine deficiency in children and adults.  Complete loss of voice is possible, too.   "He's extremely lethargic, barely moving."  This statement really worries me.  Thiamine deficiency can cause fatigue and loss of energy like this.  Thiamine deficiency can be serious in small children.  Do mention this to the doctor. It's horrible you and your son had to wait so long for an appointment.
