Hi All,

I did not take a second look at and made a mistake on my Multi vitamins that I bought earlier this week I think. I guess when I bought them I had my daughter with me and was in a hurry to get other things done before I went to work that night and did not fully see the ingrediants on the Multi Vits that I bought. THe other two are safe, I saw this morning after taking them Maltodextrine and also had Gluconate this and Gluconate that, Have I not seen these ingrediants on the I'M NOT SAFE TO EAT LIST. If these are not safe no wonder i have been really tired and having trapped gas internally and C all week. I have been trying to eat really good this week until today, Its harder when I am home with my husband.

THanks, Donna

One of the best ways to check on the safety of these is to put the brand name of the vitamin into a search engine like google and the word gluten. Many times the companies info will be one of the first links that comes up.

The ingredients you mentioned should be safe, maltodextrin is safe in the US it is not wheat dervied. You can apply the google trick to the seperate ingredients also.

Hey Donna,

I ran into this same thing not too long ago when I was looking for a good gluten-free multivitamin.

Apparently Maltodextrin is okay, and the "gluconate" that you mention is probably "ferrous gluconate" which is a source of iron in most multivitamins. Coincidentally, iron also causes "indigestion" and constipation! Hopefully that's all that you're dealing with.... hopefully not CC of some sort.

maltodextrin is safe...it just looks misleading :). and if it WERE processed from wheat, it would say so.

i don't think gluconate is bad...it will have wheat listed if it had wheat. if you are unsure, call the company. but, those ingredients, to me, appear safe.

Thank you ladies I was just wondering, Because when I took my Iron supplements when I was pregnat with my daughter I was severly Constipated and could never go literally little pebbels and hard for me to pass even when they were size of peas but guess that I can say that I have been eating bad. So ya'll are telling me that I can take them again. I thought that gluconate was a fancy was of saying gluten, and I thought I saw Maltodextrin on one of the list of don't eat because of the Malt.

THank you

It is not uncommon for iron to cause constipation and the stools you describe.

Be sure you get enough magnesium, it helps with constipation, but do not take mag. at the same time as iron. I take on in the morning (iron) and the other in the evening.

nope.. :)

gluconate does not mean gluten, and maltodextrin does not mean malt. :)

I thought that I'd read that maltodextrin in foods was made from corn (in the U.S.) unless otherwise stated, but that that rule did not apply to vitamins or medicines, and that maltodextrin used in those things might come from any source and not give the information on the label.

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
