Retainer/denture Cleaner

Hi there,

I have been using Efferdent (denture cleaner) to clean my retainer.

It was working great, but I e-mailed the company to check if it's gluten-free, and they said they could not confirm that it is gluten-free.

Anyone know of a gluten-free alternative that I could use to clean my retainer?

Thanks!

Georgia Girl

A product being gluten free and a company swearing that its gluten-free are two different things.

If you can post the ingredients, I'm sure someone will chime in to help determine if it is safe.

Dear Georgia Girl Here is your answer along with some other information that I am going to post tonight.

HI ALL

1- Tone soap is gluten-free

2- ALL Lever Brand Detergents are gluten-free (ie All, Surf, Lever)

3- Dove soap probably isn't. They said to check the label.

4- Aussie shampoo sent a dumb response- with no answer regarding gluten.

5-FINALLY-- Wise Popcorn is gluten-free-- Found out from another Celiac. We went to I Love Gluten Cafe in

Bellmore for Dinner. Was Wonderful.. gluten-free foods are a little expensive- but the regular menu is

not. AND THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE!!!!!.

6- Polident- for dentures or like - Invisaline -"tooth skins" (retainers) is gluten-free.

7- Regular Neutrogena T/Gel dandruff shampoo IS NOT gluten-free. BUT the daily dandruff control

shampoo is.

Never thought of using a cleaner on my retainers - I just use my toothbrush/toothpaste and brush them (it's what my ortho told me to do)!

GlaxoSmithKline"We do not provide a list of gluten free products as formula changes or manufacturing site changes may occur. We ask that consumers call us about specific products to ask this question. As far as Polident tablets are concerned, they are a gluten free product." 4/25/07

Polident tabs are pretty similar to Efferdent Tabs to clean dentures/retainers AND also great to clean your hands after gardening!

Dear Georgia

We use Polident 3 minute on my daughters retainers. I called them and they also sent me coupons. But, they have a new product out that is a foam to make for fresh breath that is not gluten-free.

I just called the 1-800 number for the jhonson and jhonson company about the efferdent anti-bacterial denture cleanser and I was told that the product is gluten free, but they can not assure me that there was no cross contamination in the process of making it.

I have been using Walmart's generic version for over two years with no problem.

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
