Nervous

I'm a bit nervous. One week from today I am going to see a G.I. I have been pretty sick ( you can read more about it here Open Original Shared Link )and my primary wanted me to go see the G.I.

I haven't been to anybody (other than my general pract.) since my diagnosis!!! I am pretty nervous and a bit scared.

My GP did run my celiac pannel recently and it came back "negative". However, the lab didn't send my exact numbers so I am waiting on medical records to send those to me. I was SUPER relieved to have that come back negative. That means I am doing what I need to do in terms of my celiac :D

I feel ok as long as I am on antibiotics, but when I stop those the pain comes back in my abdomen. I'm just scared of what it can be. I think probably diverticulitis, however with all the antibiotics I have been on I would have thought it would have cured up the infection and I would be 100% better, however I am not.

Last night I threw up and threw up and threw up so hard that I wet my pants and broke blood vessels in my eyes!! I'm sick of feeling sick!

Why am I posting this.......I don't know. I'm just nervous and I know you all know how that feels. Thanks for listening!

I do hope you feel better soon!!!! I can't offer much except words of wishing well!!! I wish I could do more. I hope your GI can do something!

Good luck!

I have a GI appointment tomorrow too! (its my second)

Mine was 10x more helpful than my primary and was the first person to say "we are going to get to the bottom of this and get you feeling better."

During the visit he palpated my abdomen, asked me a ton of questions and then ordered test and labs.

It was "easy" compared to visits that involved invasive stuff.

I tend to get nervous in hospitals/doctors offices, so I find it really helpful to write down all of my questions ahead of time, so that I don't forget one.

I hope things go well for you.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm just nervous.......hopefully that goes away before Monday (prob not ha ) They called to confirm/remind me about my appointment today. The people all sound very nice at the office, I guess it's just the fear of "not knowing" that gets to me. Thanks again for the encouragement :)

Good luck. I hope everything goes well.

Are you taking any probiotics to counter the effects of antibiotics?

OH yes lol Not sure what kind of shape I would be without them after so many rounds of antibiotics.....

The closer that it gets to Monday, the more nervous I get. I keep trying to talk myself out of being nervous, but so far it isn't working. My Mom is going with me now, so that makes me feel a bit better, but I really hate meeting new doctors. I think I have some phobia of them because of all the trouble I had trying to figure out what was wrong (ended up with my celiac diagnosis). I know many of you can relate with that MD fear lol.

I keep thinking that I should make a list of questions to ask, but I really don't have but one "why do I have this pain".

I need to just stop worrying about it, but that's near impossible!! ha

I went to the big fancy GI today. I am not so sure if I am happy with him. My mom thought he was GREAT.....I on the other hand have not decided yet.

He wants to run tests (duh I figured that). He thinks that maybe my celiac diagnosis is wrong....ummm ok then why do I hurl and am sick for weeks when I eat gluten?!?!! Why has the gluten free diet worked great for the last 5 years with no real troubles until now, and why are my symptoms different than the ones I had before when I got my diagnosis. <_<

He thinks maybe it's irritable bowel....to which I said "is irritable bowel even a real diagnosis for anything" Isn't it sort of a catch all for when things can't be figured out(I don't think he liked that question much).

He said that I could very well have celiac or just feel better on a gluten free diet (duh I've felt better for the last 5 years......)

Thinks that maybe I should eat some gluten to see how I feel. Told him that I was about to die before, and not eating gluten has made me have my life back...sooo I'm not going back to eating gluten again. PERIOD! He did say that was fine and would be best to do that if it makes me sick. DUH!!

He wants to wait until I am in severe pain to run a CT scan and more blood work and a scope. YEAH.....soooo you mean I have to get severely sick again until you will test me?? LOL  His answer "yeah".

Thinks it may be diverticulitis causing all the trouble.....however without a CT and a scope he won't say for sure (ok this point actually makes sense to me).

He did a physical exam of my stomach (poking around) and I about decked him when he poked around on my right side. He knew I was in a HUGE amount of pain. He kept appologizing. He said the pain can be internal or can be muscle/skeletal pain. He said it's hard to tell without the scopes and ct (this part also makes sense to me).

So the plan is to wait until I am in pain again, schedule a CT and CBC.

So for now....I sit and stew and decide what I think of this doctor and wait for the pain to REALLY kick in to get some answers....*sigh* <_<

If I were you I would get a second opinion on the issue of waiting to do the CT and the scope. With your celiac diagnosis and your relief on the diet and the fact that your numbers are down confirming that your being dietarily compliant it really is time to find out what is going on.

It is not a bad thing to get a second opinion and if it is diverticulosis that is causing your discomfort the time to find out is not when you are in an active diverticulitis episode. It is reccommended during those that a scope not be done because of the increased risk of intestinal preforation, a slim risk when you are not in an active ill state. One additional word of caution they will when doing a CT scan of your intestines have you drink a contrast material and they may also inject another to enable them to get a clear picture of what is going on. The oral contrast usually contains gluten, you need to be sure the contrast they hand you is water based, it should be clear. The Injectables are not a problem unless you are allergic to iodine.

I feel soooo tired today and extremely sore where he was pushing on my stomach. It was sore to even a light touch last night. grrrrr <_<

I know he wants the CT scan and CBC done first. I don't think the scope would be the same day, but who knows!! I know it isn't safe to do the scopes when you have infection though, so I wouldn't let him do it. I don't want to cause even MORE troubles ;)

Thanks for reminding me about the nasty stuff you have to drink. I haven't had a CT in about 5 years so I had forgotten about that stuff. I did remember the injection (that makes you feel like you have to pee BAD). I'll be sure to ask about the clear one instead of the chalky drink.

I'm so sick of being sore.......

This happened to me as well. What’s weirder is that within a couple hours of taking paxlovid it subsided. I thought maybe I got glutened but after reading your post not so sure.

Hi Tiffany. Thank you for writing your dituation and  circumstancesin such detail and so well writte, too. I particularly noticed what you wrote about brain for and feeling like your brain is swelling and I know from my own experiences that's how it feel and your brain really does swell and you get migraines.    Way back when I was in my 20s I read a book by 2 MD allergist and they described their patient who came in complaining that her brain, inside her cranium, was swelling  and it happened when she smelled a certain chemical she used in her home. She kept coming back and insisting her brain actually swelled in her head. The Drs couldn't explain this problem so they, with her permission, performed an operation where they made a small opening through her cranium, exposed her to the chemical then watched as she brain did swell into the opening. The DRs were amazed but then were able to advise her to avoid chemicals that made her brain swell. I remember that because I occasionally had brain fog then but it was not a serious problem. I also realized that I was becoming more sensitive to chemicals I used in my work in medical laboratories. By my mid forties the brain fog and chemicals forced me to leave my  profession and move to a rural area with little pollution. I did not have migraines. I was told a little later that I had a more porous blood brain barrier than other people. Chemicals in the air would go up into my sinused and leak through the blood brain barrier into my brain. We have 2 arteries  in our neck that carry blood with the nutrients and oxygen into the brain. To remove the fluids and used blood from the brain there are only capillaries and no large veins to carry it away so all those fluids ooze out much more slowly than they came in and since the small capillaries can't take care of extra fluid it results in swelling in the face, especially around the eyes. My blood flow into my brain is different from most other people as I have an arterial ischema, adefectiveartery on one side.   I have to go forward about 20 or more years when I learned that I had glaucoma, an eye problem that causes blindness and more years until I learned I had celiac disease.  The eye Dr described my glaucoma as a very slow loss of vision that I wouldn't  notice until had noticeable loss of sight.  I could have my eye pressure checked regularly or it would be best to have the cataracts removed from both eyes. I kept putting off the surgery then just overnight lost most of the vision in my left eye. I thought at the I had been exposed to some chemical and found out a little later the person who livedbehind me was using some chemicals to build kayaks in a shed behind my house. I did not realize the signifance  of this until I started having appointments with a Dr. in a new building. New buildings give me brain fog, loss of balance and other problems I know about this time I experienced visual disturbances very similar to those experienced by people with migraines. I looked further online and read that people with glaucoma can suffer rapid loss of sight if they have silent migraines (no headache). The remedy for migraines is to identify and avoid the triggers. I already know most of my triggers - aromatic chemicals, some cleaning materials, gasoline and exhaust and mold toxins. I am very careful about using cleaning agents using mostly borax and baking powder. Anything that has any fragrance or smell I avoid. There is one brand of dishwashing detergent that I can use and several brands of  scouring powder. I hope you find some of this helpful and useful. I have not seen any evidence that Celiac Disease is involved with migraines or glaucoma. Please come back if you have questions or if what I wrote doesn't make senseto you. We sometimes haveto learn by experience and finding out why we have some problems. Take care.       The report did not mention migraines.

Hi Jmartes71 That is so much like my story! You probably know where Laytonville is and that's where I was living just before my 60th birthday when the new Dr. suggested I could have Celiacs. I didn't go on a gluten challange diet before having the Celiac panel blood test drawn. The results came back as equivical as one antibody level was very high but another, tissue transaminasewas normal. Itdid show I was  allergic to cows milk and I think hot peppers. I immediately went gluten free but did not go in for an endoscopy. I found an online lab online that would do the test to show if I had a main celiac gene (enterolab.com). The report came back that I had inherited a main celiac gene, DQ8, from one parent and a D!6 from the other parent. That combination is knows to sym[tons of celiac worse than just inheriting one main celiac gene. With my version of celiac disease I was mostly constipated but after going gluten-free I would have diarrhea the few times I was glutened either by cross contamination or eating some food containing gluten. I have stayed gluten-free for almost 20 years now and knew within a few days that it was right for me although my recovery has been slow.   When I go to see a  medical provide and tell them I have celiacs they don't believe me. The same when I tell them that I carry a main celiac gene, the DQ8. It is only when I tell them that I get diarrhea after eating gluten that they realize that I might have celiac disease. Then they will order th Vitamin B12 and D3 that I need to monitor as my B12 levels can go down very fast if I'm not taking enough of it. Medical providers haven't been much help in my recovery. They are not well trained in this problem. I really hope this helps ypu. Take care.
