Having A Rough Day....

I am in a very lousy mood and I feel like crying. It is no ones fault, I just am not having a good day. It kind of started yesterday when I went to a birthday party after work and we all met at a pizza place. Of couse they had nothing I could eat, salad bar was terrible. Then someone brings in this huge cake. I litteraly had tears in my eyes. I wanted that "stuff' so bad, but not in a million years. Long story short, I watched every one eat pizza and cake while I did nothing. I did call to see if I could bring in my own pizza, know a place where I can get awsome gluten free pizza, but they said no.So... I guess I won't do the right thing by asking and just wrap it in a bag a put it in my purse next time. How terribble is that?? This is usually why I don't go out. I am really good about eating before I leave, but usually I pick a place where I know I can eat. This obviously didn't happen last night, since this was for someone else. Oh ya.. work sucks today to. Everything seems to ge annoying me today. Just needed to vent. Wish I could go for a long walk by myself, guess I have to wait till tonight. <_<

Uggghhh. So sorry you had to go through that...we've all been there (or at least I have). Pizza and cake together is such a temptation, but I'm glad you avoided it. Your mood probably stinks today because you felt so left-out yesterday. Sometimes I put a candy stash in my purse so that when everyone else is eating cake, I can also satisfy my sweet-tooth too. :)

Hope your day improves!

I know where you are coming from, I don't see a problem with bringing your own in your purse. I have had days like that though.

Kimberly,

We've all had days like this. I am the only one in my household with Celiac's. I can't count the amount of times I have fed my children all thing's filled with gluten! And, not to mention the many restaurants where I can't eat a thing. I can feel for you. My suggestion to you is to bring anything that can fit into your purse, even if it's an emergency candy bar. No need for embarrasment because no one is going to say a thing about it. I hope you feel better!

Toward the end of the school year there was some type of celebration at work in the lounge. I like to go to the lounge and relax and grade papers during my plan time, so on that particular day I sat and stared at the cakes and baked goods and just felt really badly. I also was mopey on International Day, because I remembered all the years past when I had been able to sample a lot of the foods. We're going to New York City soon, and it will be my first time there since having to go gluten free. We will hit the restaurants with gluten free menu items, but I also want my son and husband to be able to visit some restaurants that we used to go to as a family. I don't know if I'll eat before I go there or just go to the park and read and skip those restaurants altogether.

It's weird, though, because sometimes when I'm at the store or in a restaurant I just look at all of the things I used to be able to eat, and I think, "Jeez. It's just food. It looks so harmless. How bizarre that my body has such a reaction to it." :(

I know what you mean!! Thanks everyone for all the support. I hope I have a better day tomorrow.

I am sorry, that is a bummer. Next time I would sneak it in my purse, heck maybe just sneak in some cake!! I feel like maybe I should sneak something in everywhere I go. I had my first gluten free pizza the other day and it really lifted my spirits :D except for it was gluten free AND dairy free <_< . Hang in there!

Call me antisocial, but there are days when it's just not worth putting yourself through something like that. If the function revolves around people eating stuff I can't eat and there are NO options for me, I'm probably not going to go. It's no fun watching everyone else enjoy themselves and stuff their faces, smell the delicious smells, and have to answer the constant questions about why you aren't joining in and eating like everyone else.

Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.
