Great News For Nova Diners!

I had to share this with everyone because it was a wonderful find. The other day, my mother (who does not have Celiac) was looking through the Washington Post's Food section which had an article on gluten free baking. While rooting around the paper, she found that a local restaurant, Chima Steakhouse in Tysons Corner, is hosting a gluten free dinner! The local Celiac organization here in Northern Virginia called tonight to confirm our reservation and see how many family members had Celiac Disease. I was totally blown away! The dinner is coming up, the beginning of next week I think, but if you live in the area and would like to go, feel free to email me at wheeleks@jmu.edu and I can send you the information to get signed up. The Chima Steakhouse line number did not offer any help in making the reservation, it is specifically through the local Celiac group. I am beyond excited for a great gluten free dinner and knew that only people in this group would fully appreciate the magnitude of this event!!! Happy eating to all!!!

My family and I attended this dinner last night. It was a great event and the price was superb (1/3 the regular price). Kudos to the group for organizing it.

      What would you do - neighbor brought gluten-free pizza from Papa Murphy's

      I could not agree with you both more. I still haven't bumped into my neighbor's mom to explain, but I am certain she will understand. I am in play it safe and error on the side of caution mode right now. I see no point in taking any unnecessary risk. Thank you both for your time and thoughts.

      British Coeliacs: Marks and Spencer's have launched a Gluten Free Colin the Caterpillar Cake.

      Brilliant news for British Coeliacs! Colin was launched in 1990 so I am fortunate in that I was able to try this amazing chocolate swissroll cake before my diagnosis. But the good news is he has now appeared in the Gluten Free aisle at M&S, and also is available home delivery through Ocado. https://www.marksandspencer.com/food/made-without-wheat...

      Very helpful @knitty kitty. Thank you. I am trying to remember what vitamin so alarmed my GP and I have a feeling it was A or E. I remember reading the pills contained well over the 100 per cent RDA of whatever the vitamin was. One thing I'd love to ask you that has always intrigued me. One day when my anxiety was completely through the roof...

One thing I'd love to ask you that has always intrigued me.  One day when my anxiety was completely through the roof.  I 'felt the fear and did it anyway' - a phrase other anxiety sufferers may be aware of, which I found a powerful tool in my recovery -  and visited a friend's house, even though I felt so wretched.  For some reason I craved milk and drank two whole pints of milk in quick succession while I was with her - to this day I can't think why, because I don't usually drink milk 'neat' - I like it in tea or coffee, or hot chocolate.  But I distinctly remember within a couple of hours feeling absolutely fine again for quite a while.  I've often wondered was it down to this milk, which I've since understood contains quite decent levels of B12.  Would that have really worked so fast?

      @trents  Good question.  We are strict at home, although I have to admit I've eating the odd thing  that turned out to have been made in a shared facility.  But that  is very unusual for me,  Therefore I have concluded that eating out must be the issue, which I do a lot more of now.  But I do need to put it to the test, and I hope to do this by not eating out for a few months.  I'll let you know in September when I have my next blood tests done.  😊
