I was worried about this also, but there's not really much danger. There's a slim chance that some of the flavored paste they clean teeth with might contain gluten, but most do not. I recently got another bridge and the dentist assured me that there was no gluten included in the adhesives used on either the temporary or permanent bridges. All you can do is make the dentist aware of your condition. He'll know what the ingredients are in the supplies he'll be using - especially regarding allergens and such.

Good luck with the procedure.

Unlike the other poster I have had a lot of problems even getting dentists to check products. After being poisoned by 3 different dentists I haven't been able to get up the nerve to even finish the crowns I have. I have been told that one product that has likely gotten me was the gel that they apply before the injection. You want to make sure they check what they use on you and make sure they are using unpowdered gloves.

Why unpowdered gloves? I have to have all kinds of dental work done in the next couple months. I am very worried about something containing gluten.

They can be powdered with cornstarch but they can use oats. There all also gloves that use a nonorganic material that would not be a problem for us. I have such a hard time getting them to check the materials they use that I just ask for nonpowdered gloves. Many use nonpowdered and nonlatex routinely or have them on hand.

Hmm, thank you for the info!

Sorry about your root canal! I've only been glutened at the dentist once and it was from the paste that the hygienist was using to polish my teeth. I've never had a problem with anything since; my dentist's office is very aware of my problem now and everything's fine, but...and this may sound cynical as all heck, they might not know anything's wrong until you tell them.

More likely from labelling laws than anything that your personal dentist's office might be aware of.

I sure do wish I had your dentist. One thing we need to keep in mind, and write to congressmen and all medical associations about, is that the labeling laws do not apply to medications either otc or script. The names used identifying the toxin are many and I do sympathize with the folks who have to check supplies, but not as much as I do with those of us who can't find dentists who will.

My dentist's wife is a veterinarian. :)

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
