Cooking Casseroles

I am new to this board so I apololgize if this answer is already been posted. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in October and am slowly making progress. My wife has been great in cooking things I can eat while also feeding our 3 & 5 year old boys what they like. They have no indications of celiac disease and hopefully never will. One of our biggest problems is cooking casseroles because of the creamed soup issue. In Bette Hagman's cook book she has a creamed soup base mix. We have everythng but the gluten-free powdered soup base that it calls for. We have been unable to find this and therefore can't make the base. Information on where to find this soup base would be greatly appreciated. I just discovered this forum and reading the posts have helped me greatly. It is nice to know that my feelings are not completely out or ordinary and that battling some depression issues is not uncommon. Thanks in advance to anybody that can help.

I had the exact same problem as you did I had everything but the powder and I couldn't find it. Until one day when i was at SaveOn Foods I found Harvest Sun Organic Free Range Chicken Broth powder and as well as the Vegetable broth. It was the highlight of my day and they were even on sale that day. It says right on the back of the container that they are gluten free. SaveOn Foods isn't the only place that I found it so I am sure you will be able to fight it at a place near you.

If like me, you live in a remote area, you may have to do some shopping on the Internet. Glutano brand has a beef and chicken that I have. I cannot remember which site I found it on but if you type in gluten free soup base or gluten free boullion, into a search engine like Yahoo or Excite, you should be able to find it. I use it for all sorts of stuff.. I just did a search and found even more products!! YAY!! Here try this link...

Open Original Shared Link sorry I dont know how to put that into active link.. <_< but if you type it in your browser, it will pop up. Soup is food for the soul as are hotdishes ( thats what we call em here in Iowa and what I grew up on) and you should not go without. :) Stay strong.

Well I see the board puts it into active links. Idiot proof, I like that. ;)

:D my sister found a soup base that is gluten free too--she found it at a store in lansing, michigan--today i found it here at king kullen in islip, new york--so it must be out there to find everywhere ;) --its not powder though--its a chicken base made by Superior Touch--www.superiortouch.com --the name on the jar is, "Better Than Bouillon"--1 teaspoon is = to one bouillon cube or an 8 oz. can of broth and its good :P --now if only i could find some good noodles to put it on :( deb

Hey Deb, have you tried Aproten pasta? I have tried them all, I mean all. Online, in the store in the city.. at health food stores. Aproten is the best in my opinion. The rest have funky textures that I dislike. Aproten is imported from Italy, its costly, it contains saffron but you can hardly tell its not wheat pasta. I for one keep waiting for my brain to forget wheat pasta. <_< It comes in many different shapes. If you like big fat noodles, try the taggatelli (sp?) its big fat noodles and it works well in hotdishes. :)

I'm confused, I am also looking for the gluten-free powdered soup base - it seems like the products you are mentioning are similar to boullion cubes - is that what "powdered soup base" means? Can I just use the Knorr gluten-free boullion cubes from my grocery store?

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
