I'm sure some of you old pros already know this, but I have been deprived for 5 1/2 yrs. now of most junk food (probably a good thing!) but, I just called Mars (who makes M&M's-- they are safe and they have a recording of all their gluten-free candy! Yes! I know it's not healthy, but it's good to know I can have them! :) :)

Patti, do you remember that we had a member from New Zealand who said that M&M's are not gluten free there? Or am I dreaming again.

I don't remember, Lisa...you're probably right, though--why else would you have remembered it :D

Lisa was correct (as usual)....as of this thread below, (2006), M&M's contain wheat glucose in New Zealand.

OK....recently it was posted that "wheat glucose" is considered gluten free because of it's refinement. Maybe Kaycee CAN eat those M&M's???? ramble, ramble, ramble....

Oh, yeah....no crunchy M&M's.

:( O. M&Ms are my absolute favourite candy and, as luck would have it, I also happen to live in NZ...hm. Looks like I'm going to have to find a new fav...any recommendations?

Can someone tell me which candies are gluten-free? I thought Hershey's Kisses were, and then I read somewhere that they're not...confused-- I try to stick to Organic Chocolate or Trader Joe's stuff...but, it would be so handy if I could have the stuff that they sell at the grocery store!

I just had some Chocolate Skiddles yesterday....they are wonderful. AND, they are labeled gluten free.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
