I have not had a period at all naturally (without recently taking birth control) for just over 2 years now : ( I pray to God I'll be able to have children

minibabe Contributor

I have been on birth control for two years now and I have had regular periods. But which birth control are you taking in which you dont have to worry about it? Is it gluten free?

plantime Contributor

I'm not a teenager, but maybe I can fill you in a bit. If you girls are in the "very thin" class of celiacs, it is possible that you do not have enough body fat to sustain a regular cycle. If you are extremely obese, you might have too much body fat. If you are very anemic, your body might be conserving nutrients by skipping cycles. There are many factors, other than hormones, that can affect your cycles. The best thing to do is to see a GYN about it. I hope you get answers.

Thank you plantime. But i am in the thin catagory of celiac disease and it is so bad w/ me. My weight has gone down at least 10 pounds. I weigh as much as my sister who is a sphomore in High school and i am a sphomore in College. But i scheduled an appt. with my GYN so that I can speak with him about it b/c I am highly concerned. but how much does your weight need to be off by in order for you not to get it? Thank you so much for you input it was a great relief. :)

What is too thin or too fat for each person depends on each person's body. What is fat for you may be just right for me, and vice versa. There is no easy answer, which is why a gyn is the best bet for this problem.

Racheleona Apprentice

I had gained about 20 pounds a few years ago, and during this time my periods were very heavy and close. Then I intentionally began to lose weight, but when I got to a certain weight stopped dieting...this is when my periods stopped, but I continued to lose weight until I was 103 pounds (I'm 5'5). I went to the gyno and he said that I was anorexic (and I am or was not!) and told me to gain weight and everything would be fine. After having a hard time gaining weight, I have been 113 for about 8 months, and still no period. The only way I menstruate is on birth control. I have been gluten-free for 5 months, and have stopped the pill to see if a period, and nope! So its been 2 years now since I've menstruated "naturally"

plantime Contributor

At 5'5", 113 is still quite thin. My daughter is 5'3", she weighs 116, and the doc says she is right on target. Try gaining another 10 pounds and see what happens. You have a long way to go before you are overweight!

minibabe Contributor

I am 5'1" and i weigh 108. When your periods begin to stop does it depend on the percentage of bodyfat or does it just matter on how much weight really is. I go to the doctor on tuesday, but i am stressing out whcih i have heard is not that great for you periods also. Thanks for the help everyone it has been a real comfort. :)

plantime Contributor

Stress will affect your cycle. So much stuff does affect, sometimes I wonder that the human race has survived! (That's supposed to be a ha-ha, btw!) It is the percentage of bodyfat, or ratio, or something like that, and it varies from woman to woman. Try to relax, things usually work out in the end!

Hi @knitty kitty just covering back to this topic. I appreciate everyone’s help. Dairy was definitely adding to some of my issues but I wanted to ask about histamine. When I was working with my dietician I mentioned I got a stuffy nose when I was eating strawberries which I had just noticed one day in particular. Once I looked more into this I realized that histamine peaks at night and can cause insomnia exactly as I had been describing before. Working with her I realized while I wasn’t eating a lot of high histamine foods, I was eating a lot of histamine triggering or releasing like bananas (I was having several a day) and strawberries. Also some nights are worse than others but I also discovered meat sitting out even for a day can increase in histamines especially salmon which I eat quite a lot of even though I thought I was getting it fresh. Just wanted to know your thoughts and I’m just curious how this ties into celiac and leaky gut.

I noticed eating gluten-free or CGF foods have higher sugar and sodium some. No added sugar protein bars I found better with plant fiber. I wanted to know what are you go to besides whole fruits/veggies that you find are healthy for you where you can feel eating normal without hurting yourself or health. I was looking into subscription based like Thrift to see if there is something that is healthier CGF that can make me feel normal. Thanks
