Can Acid Reflux Cause Throat Swelling

Last night I had a horrible time getting any sleep. My throat felt thick and a little swollen and it must of set off

sleep apnea because I would wake up frequently with a need to catch my breath.

I've been eating some blueberries and raspberries for the last 5 days after getting these big containers of them at Sam's. Thats the only thing different that I've been doing and also yesterday afternoon I had a cup of coffee in the afternoon to stay awake. I don't usually do that eigher.

I know those fruits are high in salicylates and and I may have a sensitivity to them. Those of you who are did you have this kind of reaction? I'm wondering if I should take something like zantac for awhile. My throat still feels thick.

Gail this sounds like an allergic reaction, have you had any other symptoms like hives? If you are still feeling like you are having trouble breathing you should contact your doctor to be on the safe side.

Yes it might of been an allergic reaction. The symptoms are gone so I'm relieved about that. I just won't eat them anymore. It could be the berries itself or something they spray on them too, who knows. I already threw them away so I don't know where they came from.

I'll be tempted to try organic locally grown berries at the farmers market to find out. But I don't know still alittle rattled about it.

Raspberries are one of the most contaminated foods (chemicals of all kinds - fungicides - pesticides). I will ONLY eat organic. They are THAT BAD!!

These are a list of the 20 most contaminated:

1. Peaches

2. Apples

3. Sweet Bell Peppers

4. Celery

5. Nectarines

6. Strawberries

7. Cherries

8. Pears

9. Grapes (Imported)

10. Spinach

11. Lettuce

12. Potatoes

13. Carrots

14. Green Beans

15. Hot Peppers

16. Cucumbers

17. Raspberries

18. Plums

19. Grapes (Domestic)

20. Oranges

I will only buy ORGANIC with these. And if they dont have, I skip.

:( That is a svere allergic reaction, the thing is that you could be eating say blue berries all your life and then one day wham you get an allergic reaction worse an Anaphylctic reaction. If I were you I would get a blood test : write down every thing that you ate that day and the day before ( incase you had a delayed reaction or there was cross cntamination) then write down the names of all the foods you love to eat and go to the food and Anaphylactic website and write down the 8 most commev foods that people are becomming allergic too then add sesame ( that is already included in Europe). Also add mold because that is what I found in my Blue Barries last night. When the Doctor asks you what do you want to be tested for ... voila you have your list also you can be tested for say Tuna, Salmon etc...seperately. I wlk around with an EPI- PEN that is incase I go to Anapylaxis, I also have chewable Benedryl not sure it is gluten-free ( I am looking for the ones that are liquid that comes in a seperate tube? I also have a bronchodialater, that is to open the airways if you have Asthma and you can tolerate black tea drink that it has a natural broncho healant taht is in the inhaler. After using an inhaler rinse your mouth you do not want to wind up with thrush. These blood tests are not reliable food allergies are very seriouse. My Doc. said never mind you got 0 on all the foods we tested you for you still are allergic depending on your symptoms hives. your throat shutting down and a sense of doom discoloration of the face.

That's interesting about mold because I do avoid anything with mold just because I've been told by a doctor to stay away from it. He did a test on me way back in the 80's. If I'm in a moldy inviroment I'll get extremely tired and weepy. I have to have dehumidiferiers going in the summer. Can't have peanutbutter etc. all those foods but I haven't looked at a list lately of mold containing foods. I've changed up my diet a few months ago and I've included fruits which I never eat except maybe an apple or pear.

I'm sure that's what it is but I will check into this since my reactions are getting more severe. Thanks for info on the website. Gosh its scary to think it might come down to carrying a epi pen. :( Back to listening to me instincts about what has caused me problems.

      @Shining My Light, Yes, celiac is spelled differently in Great Britain.  Yes, please do consider us as part of your support circle.   I had a serious Vitamin D deficiency, too.  I learned Vitamin D acts as a hormone when at levels between 78-100 nmol/L.  Mine was in the single digits.  I had been in declining health for years without answers.  I had developed hormone problems and clinical depression among other symptoms.  I corrected my Vitamin D deficiency with high doses to get my level up quickly.  Yes, it's safe.  Here's some studies done on high dose Vitamin D. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34737019/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39125420/ ...

      @trents I’m pretty sure what I’m left with when separating celiac to other causes is my 10% being a virus. The one I had about 3 weeks before taking this TTG test. Everything I’ve read says type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis and some viruses are what could cause the elevation. The other blood tests I had I can compare things against.  I’m going to give your article a thorough read. My support in my circle is very small at the moment.  @knitty kitty I think before EGD I would like to do the DNA test.       @knitty kitty My whole family has migraines and I started getting them at age 19, so I'm not sure mine are related to gluten, although I do feel like obviously the more inflamed my whole system is, the more likely I am to suffer from more of these things.

      @Alibu, Just wanted to add... Migraines can be caused by thiamine insufficiency.  I used to have them, regularly, but haven't since supplementing with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) and Magnesium Threonate.  These forms get into the brain easily and really improve migraines.  I do still get Ophthalmic migraines which are triggered by computer screens.  It's permanent damage from nutritional deficiencies.  An Erythrocyte Transketolace test is a more accurate test for sufficient thiamine. Keep us posted on your progress!
