Update On My Little Granddaughter Zoey

For anybody who wants to know how that baby is doing now, here is an update.

For people reading this who didn't read my original post, Zoey, who is 24 months old, broke her left femur a week after her second birthday, and is in a cast from her ankle to almost her nipples, so can only lie straight.

She hardly ever has any pain now, so my daughter can put her in their wagon (propped up with blankets and pillows so she can see and is comfortable) and take her for walks. She puts little Sophia (10 months) into her hiking pack.

They all enjoy those outings. My daughter gets exercise, and the babies get fresh air and see something other than their four walls.

Also, my daughter and her husband have been working hard on their garden, putting in a fence to keep the kids safe and a flower garden (they have a large backyard).

While they work they put Sophie in her playpen to keep her out of trouble (and so they can get things done) and Zoey into the wagon, so they can move her to where she can see what is happening.

Zoey enjoys watching movies and colouring and having books read to her, as well as going outside. She is very patient and hardly ever gets upset.

Only once did she get very frustrated and totally lost it, and my daughter had to hold her and rock her until she calmed down.

I've been trying my best to help by sending a parcel every week with things to keep her occupied. She loves Dora the Explorer right now, so I sent her those Crayola wonder markers with a Dora colouring book (in case somebody doesn't know what that is, those are markers that will ONLY work on that special paper........ so no mess, my daughter said any other markers are like a 'death wish' with a toddler  ) and the Curious George movie to watch as well as several other little things.

Last week's parcel (which will arrive on Tuesday) has Dora t-shirts and a Thomas the Tank Engine book (she loves trains). Next week's parcel will have the movie 'Over the Hedge', a Dora sticker book and stickers. And so it goes. Something new to keep her happy.

I don't think she will be spoiled by all that. This kid would much rather play outside all day rather than watching movies, so I don't think she'll miss the treats once she is well. She'll be too busy playing on her new swing set and slide she got for her birthday, and could enjoy for only less than a week before she broke her leg!

Thank you all for your prayers and thinking of her, I am sure it helped. Two more weeks, until hopefully the cast will come off. I really, really hope it will come off then! They are going to the cottage that weekend for a week, and they can't take her if they can't put her into the car seat.

I can relate. My daughter Holly was in 2 different body casts when she was 2 1/2 yrs old. It's hard, but you learn to deal with it. She was born with a missing hip joint and the doctors didn't know it until she was 29 months old. At that point, they thought she had a dislocated hip and put her in traction, trying to get her hip to go back where it belonged, she was in traction for 6 weeks to stretch the muscles. Then the doctors put her hip where they felt it belonged (now, I wonder why they didn't know by the x-rays, that there was no hip socket then, they put her through so much) and put her in her first body cast, which was to the tip of her toes on each foot, with her feet 18" apart, and the cast went up under her arms--she was in this cast for 6 weeks. It didn't work. Then they did surgery on July 2nd and found she had no hip joint, so had to build her one, placed her hip in the new socket, pinned it there, and placed her in her 2nd body cast, which she was in for another 6 weeks. This cast went to the knee of her right leg, to the toes of her left leg, and top her armpits again. Holly only weighed about 24# at the time. By the time the 2nd cast came off, then she had to wear a brace, that held her legs a certain way, and learn to walk again. She was just walking again, by her 3rd birthday on Oct 2. It all started in April of that year. She was a little trooper.

Holly has so much trouble with that hip still. I have feel so bad when I watch her walk, and see the pain. She needs hip replacement now, but they tell her you can only have 2 hip replacements in a lifetime, and usually a replacement only lasts for 10 yrs. If she gets it done now, she will be in trouble when she gets older. It's very hard to not blame myself for this. I was so sick when I was pregnant. I know it's not my fault, it's not my fault I have celiac disease, it's not my fault the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me then--it still hurts!!!!

My thoughts are with your granddaughter and her family. She will do fine. Children heal quickly. She will be back to running and jumping, and scaring her mom soon!!!! ;)

This is really helpful  I had not considered sugar alcohols or inulin as triggers. Thanks for the practical baking tips too color coding and baking G F first makes a lot of sense. Thiamax (TTFD) plus a B-complex, and if you want benfotiamine, the Life Extension formula covers that at ~100 mg.

High fiber can definitely cause sudden GI distress especially if it’s a new addition but accidental gluten exposure can feel similar. Keeping a simple food/symptom log and introducing new gluten-free foods one at a time can really help you spot the pattern. Thanks for asking  I’m mainly looking for gluten-free staples and snacks. Any recommendations for brands or go-to items would be appreciated.

sorry a bit confused so I should take my B complex along with Objective Nutrients Thiamax for TTFD but what about a Benfotiamine to take. The Life extensions contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine together or im confusing myself. I am trying to see if I take Thiamax what should I take for Benfotiamine. Thanks EDITING after further research I see ones water soluble ones fat soluble. So I guess 100MG as you suggested of Life Extension contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride. and the Objective Nutrients Thiamax contains TTFD.     would work for me.

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.
