Blemishes And Breakouts

Hi to All,

Please let me know where to turn to concerning finding a product that is gluten free for cover-up facial blemishes/breakouts, that would be hypoallergenic and sensitive-free, as I have very sensitive skin, and need to take extra precautions in whatever I try to use.

This has been an on-going problem of late and it is not getting any better. I am post-menopause and I am not sure this is hormonal or maybe deficiencies in my body from the vitamin/minerals aspect.

Does anyone here have this problem (that might be connected to some deficiencies)? I have tried some different brands of vitamins, but I even have a intolerances of these on a daily basis. So any kind of help from you all would be great with something to atleast cover these areas up as this is an embrassing condition and my self-esteem is not the best anyway. I have tried the oral meds to help clear this up but again I cannot take these as well.

Thanks to all of you and your inputs forth-coming,

Susie

Go to the Gluten Free Foods, Products.....forum and look for the thread on Everyday Minerals. I haven't tried it yet but I put my order in last week. You can get a free sample pack and from what I've read, you can do that more than once. I have been having more trouble than usual with acne lately, and I believe it is being caused by sugar.....including fruit and rice. It is difficult to pinpoint it to a food intolerance because it takes a few days for new breakouts to occur, so at this point I can't be absolutely certain. Time will tell, I guess.

Have you had your thyroid checked recently? Acne can be a sign of hypo.

Hi Susie,

I'm post-menopausal, too. Since my hysterectomy, my skin has finally stopped breaking out as it used to do due to hormonal fluctuations. I get an occasional spot now only when I eat Lay's Stax chips. (not often--it's one of the only processed foods I eat)

I use the Everyday Minerals and love it. It doesn't contain bismuth--which is a common ingredient in mineral makeups and can cause breakouts and itchy skin.

It's great because you can get sample packs (not limited to one) to help you choose the right shades for you.

I use Dakota Free bar soap to wash my face (and in the shower)--it works as well or better than anything else I've tried.

Hi,

Yes, I have recently had it checked ( I have Graves disease and was treated with the RAI, a few years ago ), and nothing has been the same since then, as I am unable to tolerate the hormone replacement very well, which is maybe some of my problem with the breakouts and reactions. Do you have a thyroid problem as well?

Thank you for your input, which is quite right with the thought with the thyroid and problems with the skin. Wish the doctors would have put that together with my dx and how late it was in coming.

Best to you,

Susie

Hi Patti,

Thanks for your thoughts and support. You know it is pretty hard to take some days with these breakouts and our age factor, thought that was well behind me.

I do thank you all for the suggestions with the Everyday Minerals, I want to try this product, but I have not been able to get a hold of anyone by phone the last two days I have tried, and I have left a message to please call me, with no avail. I will try tomorrow again, did you reach them and order by phone? I will also look into the Dakota Free bar soap, thanks.

Best to you Patti,

Susie

Hi Lisa,

Thank you so much for this great sounding product(s). I have been trying to reach them, by phone, but have not had any success. Is this the best way to reach them? Did you order on line? I was hoping to actually speak to someone, to get more of an idea of what they are all about. I agree with your thoughts about the food relationship, this could be something to think about more, but I don't do alot of sugar, and try to eat whole foods every day, but that doesn't mean I don't have intolerances that could trigger these breakouts. I do though seem to notice the sun as a big factor and my reations with the time of exposure and breakouts. Ugh! and Ouch!

Thanks again for the Everyday Minerals,

Best to you,

Susie

I ordered on line. Check out their web site and then see if you have any questions that weren't answered there. I don't do a lot of sugar either, no desserts at all, but I know I get it in things like store-bought spaghetti sauce. Before going gluten free, caffeine definitely made me break out and probably still would.

Susie,

I always ordered on-line. I did find them impossible to reach by phone--I tried calling them to ask a question and no one ever got back to me. I will say that I never had a problem ordering from them on-line, the orders were processed right away and sent right out.

The reason I called was to ask if they offered a gift certificate, which I see they now do on the new site.

Take care :)

I recommend Everyday Minerals as well. :D

Also, I don't know if this will help anybody, but my skin pretty much completely cleared up when I moved from the US to Europe. I break out right away though (cystic acne that leaves scars) whenever my mom sends me a box with some gluten-free goodies from home.

So...I dunno. I thought I ate a whole foods diet back home but here I really eat a whole foods diet, because I can't read the labels on the packaged food LOL, and it's definitely helped my skin in dramatic ways (knock on wood lol). If I'm ever able to pinpoint an exact ingredient I'll let everybody know.

Oh, and my acne is related to hormonal issues as well, but I think it all also relates to food. :)

Good luck and let us know how you like the EM if you try it. :)

Hi Susie, yes I do have thyroid problems. I have Hashimoto's and before I was diagnosed my TSH was 3.8 and I was breaking out horribly. It took 5 years to find a Dr who understood that I had thyroid problems and make the connection. grrr... My skin completely cleared within a few days of starting Armour and I only break out now when I get exposed to gluten and even then it's nothing like it used to be before I started Armour.

Not sure what you mean by "soy being like gluten". Soy does not cause a celiac reaction. However, soy is one of the foods that many celiacs don't tolerate well for other reasons. Eggs, corn and dairy are also on that list of foods that many of those with celiac disease seem to be sensitive to. But that doesn't mean that all celiacs are sensitive to any one of them or all of them. It just means it's common. You may not have a problem with soy at all. Celiac disease is not a food allergy. It is an autoimmune response to the ingestion of gluten that creates inflammation in the small bowel lining that, over time, damages that lining.

Hey all  Has anyone on here experienced any of the following on their basic metabolic panel results ? This is what mine is currently flagging : - low sodium  - nearly too low potassium - nearly too low chloride - high CO2  - low anion gap  This is now after being nearly gluten-free for over a year (although I admit I make mistakes sometimes and pay dearly for it). My TtG went down to undetectable. I was so sensitive to so many foods I am now avoiding meat dairy and don’t eat a lot of cooked food in general (raw veggies, white rice, avocados and boiled eggs are my usual go-to meal that doesn’t make me sick). But my abdomen still hurts, i have a range of other symptoms too (headaches that last for days before letting up, fatigue, joint pain, bladder pain). Anyway im hoping my urologist (that’s now the latest specialist I’ve seen on account of the bladder pain and cloudy urine after eating certain foods) will help me with this since he ordered this metabolic panel. But I’m bouncing around a lot between specialists and still not sure what’s wrong. Also went back to the GI doctor and she thought maybe the celiac is just not healed or I have something else going on in the colon and I should have that looked at too. I’m still anemic too BTW. And I’m taking sooo may vitamins daily.

I know I haven't been tested but self diagnosed that by avoiding gluten the past 7 months I feel so much better. I have followed how to eat and avoid gluten and have been good about hidden gluten in products, how to prep gluten-free and flours to use to bake gluten-free and have been very successful. It has been a learning curve but once you get the hang of it and more aware you realize how many places are gluten-free and contamination free practices etc. One thing I have read is how soy is like gluten. How would one know if soy affects you? I have eaten gluten free hershey reeses that say gluten free etc some other snacks say gluten free but contain soy and I dont get sick or soy yogurt no issues. Is there adifference in soys?

Check your multivitamin to see if it contains Thiamine Mononitrate, which is a "shelf-stable" form of thiamine that doesn't break down with exposure to light, heat, and time sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold.  Our bodies have difficulty absorbing and utilizing it.  Only 30% is absorbed and less can be utilized.   There's some question as to how well multivitamins dissolve in the digestive tract.  You can test this at home.  YouTube has instructional videos.   Talk to your nutritionist about adding a B Complex.  The B vitamins are water soluble, so any excess is easily excreted if not needed.  Consider adding additional Thiamine in the forms Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) or thiamine hydrochloride.   Thiamine is needed to help control electrolytes.  Without sufficient thiamine, the kidneys loose electrolytes easily resulting in low sodium and chloride.   We need extra thiamine when we're emotionally stressed, physically ill, and when we exercise regularly, are an athlete, or do physical labor outdoors, and in hot weather.  Your return to activities and athletics may have depleted your thiamine and other B vitamins to a point symptoms are appearing.   The deficiency symptoms of B vitamins overlap, and can be pretty vague, or easily written off as due to something else like being tired after a busy day.  The symptoms you listed are the same as early B vitamin deficiency symptoms, especially Thiamine.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can appear in as little as three days.  I recognize the symptoms as those I had when I was deficient.  It can get much worse. "My symptoms are as follows: Dizziness, lightheaded, headaches (mostly sinus), jaw/neck pain, severe tinnitus, joint stiffness, fatigue, irregular heart rate, post exercise muscle fatigue and soreness, brain fog, insomnia.  Generally feeling unwell." I took a B 50 Complex twice a day and extra thiamine in the forms Benfotiamine and TTFD.  I currently take the Ex Plus supplement used in this study which shows B vitamins, especially Thiamine B 1, Riboflavin B2, Pyridoxine B 6, and B12 Cobalamine are very helpful.   A functional evaluation of anti-fatigue and exercise performance improvement following vitamin B complex supplementation in healthy humans, a randomized double-blind trial https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10542023/

I am taking a multivitamin which is pretty bolstered with B’s.  Additional Calcium, D3, Magnesium, Vit C, and Ubiquinol.  Started Creapure creatine monohydrate in June for athletic recovery and brain fog.  I have been working with a Nutritionist along side my Dr. since February.  My TTG IGA levels in January were 52.8 and my DGP IGA was >250 (I don’t know the exact number since it was so high).  All my other labs were normal except Sodium and Chloride which were low.  I have more labs coming up in Dec.  I make my own bread, and don’t eat a lot of processed gluten-free snacks.
