Dietician At Our Celiac Sprue Association Mtg Today

Today we had our Celiac Sprue Association meeting in Colorado Springs and had a dietician speak. The ideas she had were endless for packing lunch ideas. I have gotten in such a rut and she opened up my mind to so many other things that I have had and loved but forgotten. Lots of new things too. I had to stop at King Soopers on the way home and get some of the stuff. For a BBQ tonight I made stuffed grape leaves that everyone fought over and a gluten-free pasta salad with kidney beans. For lunch I made a lettuce wrap with homemade hummus, turkey, onion, roasted peppers, shreded cabbage, toasted sesame seeds and tomatoes it was sooooooo good. Then for a snack tomight I had a rice cake broke in 3 and had cashew butter, fire roasted chilie jam and some laughing cow cheese. One of the things I thought was interesting was when she talked about certain foods being inflammitory foods and the non inflammitory foods. I will have to look at that some more.

One of the yummy things I learned about was Tampenade=crushed olives and very flavorful. I put in everything today.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to grilling some leeks, peppers, and squash. I can't wait to play again.

Now I will probably dream about things to make for tommorrow. Like what to do with the eggplant I bought. Baba Ganoush was what she was talking about.

I'm very confused... My blood test came out negative, I checked all antibodies. I suppose my Total IgA levels are normal (132 mg/dl), so the test should be reliable. Still, I'm not relieved as I can't tolerate even a single biscuit. I need to talk to my doctor about whether a duodenal biopsy is necessary. But it is really possible to have intestinal damage despite having a seronegative results? I have really strong symptoms, and I don't want to keep skipping university lectures or being bedridden at home.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.
    • JettaGirl
This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.
