Meatloaf

If I have a good recipe for non-gluten-free meatloaf, can I just substitute gluten-free breadcrumbs for regular breadcrumbs? I want to try it, but I don't know if the consistency will be off.

I did this but subbed out using almond flour. Turkey meatloaf with almond flour. It turned out great!

On gluten-free mommy.com, she says that you need 1 cup gluten-free fresh bread crumbs for a 1 1/2 lb. meat loaf. Her recipe uses 1/2 cup dried crumbs for a 1 1/2 lb. loaf.

There are lots of substitutes you can use but I never cared for meatloaf so I don't make it.

some ideas: (don't know how well they work)

gluten-free-rice chex, rice krispies, corn flakes

potato flakes

cornmeal

rice

gluten-free cracker crumbs

gluten-free dried bread crumbs

or mix and match above items if you are short

For one loaf recipe I used 1/4 cup quinoa flakes, works perfect every time. Gluten eating family raves about it much more so then my gluten full recipe! IT is extra moist this way.

I second the quinoa flakes. In fact, we just had meatloaf tonight for dinner and I used quinoa in it. I have also used crispy rice cereal, crushed rice chex, crushed rice cakes, flax meal, and crusts from Trader Joe's brown rice bread chopped finely in my food processor.

Certain bread crumbs I find are a bit bulkier when they soak up the liquid so I use a little less. But for the most part I use the same amount.

When I make meatloaf I put in a little chopped onion, thyme, garlic powder, and some cooked potatoes....I have used mashed, chopped, or grated potatoes...and a egg or maybe some sweet rice flour for sticking it together....

If you can tolerate it, you can also use gluten-free oats. Precooked sticky rice also works well in meatloaf too.

Well, I made my usual meatball recipe with the gluten-free breadcrumbs, and they tasted the same as ever.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
