Casein Reaction And Celiac Disease (not Intollerance) - Are They Related?

My baby is 9mths old and vomits (small amounts) from yoghurt and gets severe diarrhea from both yoghurt and cheese. She is also getting asthma and is on medication daily for that. (she is gluten free just in case so far BTW)

She doesnt get diarrhea from her from her HA (partially hydrolised formula), but refuses to have more than 1/2 recommended amount, so i think its a casein problem rather than lactose...

anyway is casein allergy related to celiac disease (which i have)? (and i take it casein reactions are an allergy not an intollerance? even without rashes?).

thanks

There is quite a bit of discussion on the board recently about casein and gluten, you might look for a thread with that in the title.

From my understanding, casein intolerance is pretty common in celiacs, but not every celiac. Some seem to improve after gluten-free and can reintroduce it. Others remain casein intolerant.

Casein reactions can be either an allergy or an intolerance. Each person differs in the amount they can tolerate.

There is some suggestion as I recall that the casein molecule is somewhat similar to the gluten molecule, and that it can cause villi atrophy, but I am not sure about this. It seems more clear that soy causes villi atrophy in some people.

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Thank you for the links to the articles.  Interesting reading. I'll be telling my brother in law because he has a lot of pain
