Do Grooming Products Affect Gi Symptoms

Sheila Marie

I'm on a gluten free diet with no relief in my symptoms (abdominal bloating and discomfort). I have not yet invetoried my grooming products to see if they contain gluten. Is it possible that make up, hair products, doedorant and lotions can also give you GI discomfort?

Thanks

Yes they can. Hair can get into your mouth and you can get glutened. If your lip stick has gluten you can digest it every time u lick your lips.

But maybe it isnt gluten that is causing you dicomfort. Have you given up mill products or even soy.

You didn't mention how long you have been gluten-free. Some have immediate relief, others (especially those who were not diagnosed early) take longer to experience improvement. Also, it depends on your sensitivity (see my post in the previous thread about toothpaste). But the short answer is, yes.

I'm given up dairy and soy. What do you mean by "mill products"

Yes, it seems to make a significant difference to many. Traces get into your mouth when you shower (like from your soapy or shampoo. Other things may leave traces on your hands or on surfaces and then to your mouth inadvertently.

There can also be inadvertent gluten ingestion from foods even that are marked gluten free that impact people who are very sensitive.

Another issue can be kitchen surfaces like wood cutting boards, teflon pans, etc.

Thanks, Knitty Kitty!  You seem so knowledgeable.  I have followed your other posts.  Actually, I have been supplementing with all of the B complex vitamins, as well as other recommended vitamins and minerals for over 50 years.  My urine is bright yellow after dosing, so I am pretty sure that I am absorbing enough of these supplements to be therapeutic.   When I was still working as a nurse, we used to give high dose thiamine supplements to alcoholics going through withdrawal.  Alcoholism apparently caused a thiamine deficiency.

Yes, we've been tracking possible treatments for many years, and here is one of our more recent articles:

This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):

I'm not in any clinical trials, can I ask why you are so focused on this particular one? There are now several celiac disease potential treatment drugs undergoing clinical trials.
