H.pylori

So, I am starting to have this crazy stomach pain again...

I get hungry, I eat, then my stomach feels like it's burning. Then I feel like I need to eat again to make it feel better... my stomach feels good for only a short amount of time. Grrr...

I wouldn't have even thought of this, but my friend has been treated for H Pylori and her symptoms were very similar to mine.

I know that an active H.pylori infection is pretty common among Celiacs, so I'm just wondering if some of you could share your symptoms. I'm trying to determine if I should try to move up my GI appt that is scheduled for Nov 11.

And no... I have not ingested gluten accidentally. These are foods that didn't bother me before. Yesterday, even water hurt my stomach. <_<

Hi,

If you are in that much pain, I would definitely try to move up your GI appointment. I had an h.pylori infection 3 years ago that caused 5 stomach ulcers- nothing to mess with! The symptoms you're describing certainly sound to me like they could indicate some investigating is necessary by a GI.

Feel better soon,

Debbie

Aww.. thanks Momma G!

I called their office a few minutes ago and left a message with the nurse. So, now it's hurry up and wait.

Hi Lizard, I have had h-pylori and it isn't fun, so I feel for you pain. My symptoms were awful, raw upper GI pain, chest pain. Sometimes if I ate or drank something it was like acid in my stomach or chest. Lived on Pepto for years, pre celiac diagnosis. Went to my doc and he mentioned maybe h-pylori and I was like what else can I have because they never mentioned celiac. Well low and behold they did a blood test and my panel came back positive for the h-pylori, (at the time, I did not know I had celiac and neither did they, I was just diagnosed 3 years this December). I took the prev-pack of antibiotics and within a couple of weeks I was better. Ironically my sister who always thought of me as a hypochondriac pre celiac was just diagnosed about 3 moths ago with h-pylori. If you can't get in with your GI sooner, maybe your primary doc can order your the blood test for h-pylori. Good Luck

Try taking some mastic gum. It may help you as it is reported to kill H. Pylori (before taking this though, make sure you get tested first because it can cause a false negative). Nexium is great and Carafate is also really good too. Protonix is the worst...

BTW, if I am severely glutened this can happen. Only if I ate a whole 16 inch pizza or something though!!!

Hey! I had an H.pylori infection back when I was in college. It felt like normal acid reflux times ten! I had really bad chest pain. I took the prev pack and that got it all cleared up. I would definately move my apt up. My chest pain got so bad that I had to go the the ER and then they gave me one of those yucky green shots that numb your insides. Best of luck! Hope you feel better soon!

Yes, this weird stuff with misunderstanding hunger cues is a really big one for me when my stomach is queasy or upset. At first, food helps, then I feel like crap again. I had the H. pylori test and treatment (the antibiotics are horrible), and did feel a lot better, but couldn't stand the meds to complete the 21 day trial. Most ulcers are caused by H. pylori, which you probably already know.

Good luck!

Yeah, that one is always hard, especially since life seems to revolve around food. That happened to me 2 weeks ago with hibachi and with Hungarian hot dogs. I used to be more picky, but now I would love to try all the things if I could. On the bright side, my husband is absolutely wonderful with it, and his mom often brings a few certified gluten-free things to family get-togethers just for me (and tries to make sure main dishes are safe too). Having the people closest to you be supportive can make a huge difference.

I hear you. My extended family is very good about factoring in my celiac disease safety needs when making family celebration meal plans but sometimes it breaks down in the spur of the moment decisions to "Oh, let's go out and get some teriyaki" or the like. Especially when my brother in law comes into town 'cause he's pretty particular about what he likes to eat. So, sometimes I just say, "You guys go ahead without me. I'll find some leftovers." But, still, I admit to feeling a little left out at such times and a little like a 5th wheel.

Same, and I appreciate your comments. I just needed to get it off my chest. Sometimes, even when its a genuine mistake, it can feel all too hurtful and I didn't want to go back to work tomorrow still in my feelings.

Yes, probably slipped his mind. Grace is in order here is my thought.

I should have added that, while I dont have access during the meetings, I do as soon as I leave them (same for him) so I would have seen before I even left work. He has my number since we've needed to coordinate by cell a few times for work and other stuff. I usually have a protein bar or two in my desk for emergencies so I could have grabbed one of those and gone to meet them at the right restaurant.  Someone else decided on the change of restaurant and it must have slipped his mind that I wasn't coming back to my desk.
