Just went to the doc after being gluten free for about a month. He didn't want to do another celiac panel yet, he said that he'd rather wait until after the holidays.....give the diet a little time....and me a little time to heal.....BUT--he said that IF things are looking up, I MIGHT be able to start backing off my Crohn's meds!!! Woohoo!!!!!! With a little luck, I can drop off a couple of pills after the new year....then maybe by late summer/early fall, I won't have to take anything anymore!!!!!!! Yipeeeee!

Sorry, I'm excited!!! Woooohooooooo! :D:D:D

Lucky you! It's always great when you are getting better and cut out a few meds.

Wonderful news!!!!!!!! It feels so wonderful when we are able to abandon the drugs that we had to use for so long. I have a tackle box full and whenever I get a little bit down about health related things I open up that tackle box for a reminder of how far I have come. I hope your script is able to start living in a box under the bed rather than a handy shelf real soon.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
