Sara Lee Pie Without The Crust?

I know better safe than sorry generally but I was wondering if the pie filling for sara lee is gluten free and if it would be ok to eat?

Does Sara Lee make a pie filling separately? Or a crustless pie? If you are asking if it is OK to eat the pie filling out of the pie, the answer would be definitely no.

Sara Lee discloses all forms of gluten in their labeling. You should be able to read the label on their products to know if they are safe. Here is their reply to an email earlier this year.

In response to your inquiry, Sara Lee takes quality and allergens very seriously. We follow a truth in labeling policy on all of our products. The top eight allergens required by the FDA will always be listed in the "contains statement" whether the result of being an ingredient or as a result of cross contact. The top eight allergens are: Dairy, Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Eggs, Soy, Wheat, Fish, and Shellfish. We recommend always reading and trusting our labels. In addition, if we change ingredients in our products, the changes would be reflected on the label. Please be assured that we will always do our best to produce high quality products that you and your family will enjoy.

If there is someone in your household with an allergy, we recommend you contact your physician with any further questions.

Again, thank you for your interest in our company. We appreciate your business. Upon further questioning, they said:

Thank you for contacting us again with your questions on gluten. To clarify what was stated, the policy of Sara Lee is that any gluten-containing ingredients will be listed in the ingredients and will not be hidden in any flavors or spices. The reason for this is that gluten can come from grains other than wheat. The ingredient listings may include the grains themselves, or other ingredients such as malt which can be derived from these grains. We encourage customers to obtain a list of gluten-containing ingredients from their physicians. Other great sources of information are www.celiacsociety.com and www.foodallergy.org. Because Sara Lee does not print a list of gluten-free products, we encourage customers to always read the labels.

IF they sell the filling separately and IF it is gluten-free, enjoy! BUT, we CANNOT eat a pie, by scooping out the filling that has touched the crust. Whether or not we get recognizable symptoms, we have an immune reaction and the lining of our small intestines sustains damage. If you want just the pie filling there are some sold in cans and they are most likely thickened with cornstarch. Warm it up and serve with a scoop of icecream. Yum! I haven't seen the Sara Lee brand but there are others. Comstock is one. You can check their websites or call the 800 number on the label. On weekdays you can stand there in the market and call them on you cell phone. I and others I know sometimes do that. On the web, check under the FAQ's or Contact Us.

      Many years ago yes, after eating and going to bed, apparently my esophagus filled with food that my body rejected, the esophagus would lay against the Heart sack (pericardium?) and the heart would respond by becoming arrhythmic. That went away with the strict diet.

      I was commenting on the report saying it did not mention migraines! Yes it does last paragraph says have not seen any evidence that Celiac cause migraines! I thought this was about truth?

      It has been known for some years that celiacs suffer from migraines at a higher rate than the general populatation. It is an established symptom.

      I suffer so bad with migraines when I eat gluten! Yes diagnosed celiac disease n 2015 and it took me years to discover gluten was behind me having severe migraines.  So yes it happens there has to be others like me!
