Wondering If Something Has Been Missed

Hi everyone, I have been (I am pretty sure) gluten free for over 4 months now and have been on a roller coaster. I start feeling better and then right back down hill. I am depressed and moody today. I feel like crap. My neuro symptoms are back and I have had a lower colon ache with lower back ache for 3 days. The only thing I could have been glutened or soyed by is Lays Potatoe chips.

They say they are gluten free, but made in the factory with other gluten. The equipment is washed, blah, blah, blah.......Does anyone else get a reaction from that?

Then I had a the annual Christmas party last night. Everyone brings something. My counters were covered with GLUTEN stuff. I had my own home made chicken drummets and fresh veggies. Oh Yea!!! I didn't think I'd be jelous, but I was because I felt like crap already. I guess if I felt better, I'd be less bothered by it. I made sure I washed me and my kitchen well, but I could smell the pizzas half the night even though they were out of the house.

I just want to be well and I woke up several times last night wondering if something has been missed and got full of worry like, am I full of cancer or something. I just feel so bad off and on and I don't understand this. How can I feel good and then so bad? I am just sick of being sick.

This is normal is it?? And what about the Lays Plain Chips? Any input? Thanks

Hi Amber,

I'm sorry that you're feeling so bad!

DQ7 is associated with gluten intolerance, casein intolerance, and grass/pollen allergies... Is there anything you started eating a lot more of when you went gluten-free? I noticed in your signature that you went soy-free 30 years ago... what about corn? You could also try things like dairy, nuts, citrus, nightshades, tapioca, coconut... or even go on the SCD or the anti-candida diet. Once your body heals you might be able to tolerate a lot more foods again.

When I stopped eating gluten I started eating a LOT more corn than usual... corn chips, corn cakes, corn bread. Plus a lot of the gluten-free goodies have cornstarch. When I stopped eating corn for my son's benefit I was amazed at how much it helped me too. :)

I know it can be hard to sleep when you're worried and thoughts are racing through your mind. What kind of pre-bedtime habits do you have? A cup of tea or a warm shower really helps me unwind so I can sleep better. If I'm exhausted life can seem so overwhelming.

Many people here react to Frito/Lays Products, even though they are gluten free,. The cross contaimination during manufacturing seems to cause a problem for some.

Thanks, I suspected the chips because I seem to recall the last few times I'd eaten them before this time, I had a reaction to. Well, there's one more thing down.

I hardly eat any corn now because I was feeling less well after eating it. I only eat corn tortillas about every 3 or 3 weeks when I make tacos. I will have to think about that too. I am going to check out the candida thing, I don't know much about it.

I prepare all of my sweets myself so I know whats in them and never eat the prepared stuff. Most of the gluten free prepared stuff has soy, so I never got into it. I have used corn starch to thicken some things. Why does the corn bother?

I got tested on the dairy and came back okay.

I'm still feeling bad today, but better than yesterday. I just want to cry right now alot. Thanks for your help.

Corn seems to be a common IgG allergen (just like gluten, dairy, and soy)... probably because it's difficult for the body to digest. The corn we eat today is very different from the original plant. It's also one of the most heavily genetically-modified foods <_< I'm checking into the candida thing too... I'm planning to try the SCD starting in January. Corn is in everything! If you get rid of corn syrup, corn starch, corn oil, etc... that eliminates a LOT of processed foods.

Another idea for you... vitamin D. I'm taking 4000iu per day and I feel a LOT more emotionally stable. :)

I am on the vit. D (400 IU) for the last 2 months. It is probably one the threads holding my brain together right now! LOLI

I am not eating any processed foods right now at all. Very basic seems to be the best, and I still screw up now and then. Like the Lays potato chips. Done with those! Rice seems to work the best on my stomach right now. (rice flower, pasta, etc.)

I started the "Oil Pulling" 3 days ago after researching it. I has already cleared my fluid biuldup out and whitened my teeth. When I start my dentist regimen in Feb., I'll be anxious to see if it changes my gum disease. It is suppose to detox the body too.

400iu of vitamin D is better than nothing, but that's just the RDA (which really needs to be revised). You need at least 2,000iu per day to raise your blood levels... depending on your weight you could take even more. Anything under 10,000iu is considered safe for long-term use.

I'm glad to hear that the oil treatment seems to be helping! :)

It's possible, as there are other things that may cause elevated tTg-IgA levels, but in general a reaction to gluten is the culprit:    Also, approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.

Perhaps you could bring you own? Not sure, but worth a try.

I received my ANA test results - negative.  I'm thinking it was infection, was put on antibiotics for suspected sibo at the time blood test was taken. Significant improvements from taking them even while eating gluten.

Thanks again. I've actually convinced my local butcher shop to start carrying Ghostfish gluten-free beer. It's not bad! But you won't often find it at a ski lodge.

Villi damage is caused by celiac disease, which does not happen in NCGS, although some people with NCGS do have elevated antibody levels. Some people with NCGS who have the genes for celiac disease may end up developing celiac disease, so in some people NCGS may be a precursor to celiac disease, but more research needs to be done on NCGS. Both low iron and vitamin D are common symptoms of celiac disease. Also, regarding beer:
