Getting Less Sensetive?...

Hey guys!

This Tuesday I will be 3 months Gluten free :-) The first month and a half was not good. Every 10 days or so I would get accidentally glutened and feel awful for about 4 days then start to get better adn then the cycle would continue (Pain, constipation followed by D, and fatigue).

I have been feeling better (still have some bloating, fatigue and muscle weakness-- but not the punched in the stomach, feeling of getting glutened). Now i know that it takes a long time for these other symptoms to go away and thats fine.

I have heard that most people become more sensetive with time and I am worried that I have become LESS sensetive and therefore wouldnt know if i am getting glutened or not. We can still hurt ourselved internally even if we dont feel it externally, so it would be nice to know when I have slipped up to help me learn.

Does anyone become less sensetive as the anti-body levels drop? Or have I really not gotten glutened in a month and a half (it was a very abrupt change). Just wondering if anyone knows, so I can make sure I'm taking care of myself the right way.

I'm also new to this and wondered that myself, and then I got glutened on the weekend :( my experience...it's doesn't go away.

Perhaps you have been quite good at keeping the gluten out of your diet, but I wouldn't test it :)

I think a lot of us become more sensitive but everyone is different. Were you diagnosed with bloodwork? If you were you could have the panel rerun and see how much your antibodies are dropping.

I was diagnosed with the blood pannel and the endoscopy. I'm not sure that it would be enough time for the anti bodies to go down though (just under 3 months). Not sure. I thought, and would kinda of hope that I would get more sensetive...maybe i'm getting better at it?

Anyone else have thoughts?

My reactions are more minimal. I can still tell if I've gotten CC'd, but sometimes I have to think about it.

Some people are not sensitive to it at all. They never have the reactions that many of us have. It is worse to be that way I think., because you are damaging yourself with out the signals of it.

So I got glutened last night by Nestel's butter scoth chips. I forgot to read the lablel (Grrrr). I ate about 10 of them then said "crap! the label" and there it was very well disclosed by nestle "natural flavors (from barley)". I give them an A+ for disclosing all sources of gluten. So then I cried... and I CAN feel it now (the next morning). Just cramping and an over all tender and wierd feeling in my gut. It isnt the punching in the stomach feeling i used to get-- so I have gotten less sensetive, but i can still feel it.

I will check back in later today....maybe it'll really kick in :-/

      Definitely get vitamin D 25(OH)D.  Celiac Disease causes vitamin D deficiency and one of the functions of vitamin D is modulating the genes.  While we can survive with low vitamin D as an adaptation to living in a seasonal environment, the homeostasis is 200 nmol/L.  Vitamin D Receptors are found in nearly every cell with a nucleus,while the highest concentrations are in tissues like the intestine, kidney, parathyroid, and bone.  A cellular communication system, if you will. The vitamin D receptor: contemporary genomic approaches reveal new basic and translational insights  Possible Root Causes of Histamine Intolerance.       I forgot to mention my suspicion of the high amount of glyphosate allowed to be used on wheat in USA and NZ and Australia. My weight was 69kg mid-2023, I went down to 60kg in March 2024 and now hover around 63kg (just after winter here in NZ) - wheat-free and very low alcohol consumption.

      Hi Jess Thanks so much for your response and apologies for the long delay in answering. I think I must have been waiting for something to happen before I replied and unfortunately it fell off the radar... I have had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy in the meantime (which revealed 'minor' issues only). Yes I do think histamine intolerance is one of the problems. I have been lowering my histamine intake and feeling a lot better. And I do think it is the liver which is giving the pain. I am currently taking zinc (I have had three low zinc tests now), magnesium, B complex, vitamin E and a calcium/Vitamin C mix. I consciously think about getting vitamin D outside. (Maybe I should have my vitamin D re-tested now...) I am still 100% gluten-free. My current thoughts on the cause of the problems is some, if not all, of the following: Genetically low zinc uptake, lack of vitamin D, wine drinking (alcohol/sulphites), covid, immune depletion, gastroparesis, dysbiosis, leaky gut, inability to process certain foods I am so much better than late 2023 so feel very positive 🙂

      Hi and thank you very much for your detailed response! I am so glad that the protocol worked so well for you and helped you to get your health back on track. I've heard of it helping other people too. One question I have is how did you maintain your weight on this diet? I really rely on nuts and rice to keep me at a steady weight because I tend to lose weight quickly and am having a hard time envisioning how to make it work, especially when not being able to eat things like nuts and avocados. In case you have any input, woud be great to hear it! Friendly greetings.
