Movie Theatre Food? Popcorn? Safe?

OK, so I'm very new at this... VERY new. I have word from my GI doc after blood test and biopsies that I have Celiac disease. I'm learning what I can't eat, and what I can eat. I am going to the movies with a friend of mine tonight, and don't know if I can eat my customary popcorn, or if I need to pack some gluten-free snack. Will there be anything there I can eat? Help?

I never go for the popcorn because I don't know what's in their flavors they add to it. Occasionally I will let the kids get M&M's or Kissables, but usually I sneak (Yeah, I'm horrible :rolleyes: ) a snack bag in for each kid and justify it by buying them a drink.

I always bring my own popcorn and then purchase soda at the theater. I pop a bag of popcorn at home (a brand we know is safe) and then put it in a ziplock bag. No one has ever stopped me before. I am certain that we aren't the only mom's who do this ;)

Hi,

Although I am in australia and the flavouring and oil maybe a little different there in the USA....

I actually work and manage a cinema complex, and I wondered about the popcorn,

I checked the packaging of all the ingredients, and all appeared safe.

But I was still too scared to try it... But a customer that we have, also has celiac and comes to the movies every week...and buys and eats the popcorn without problems.

So the other night I lashed out and decided to give it a go....

and sure enough I found it to be fine... with no bad reactions...

but as I said maybe the ingredients in Oz are different than the USA?

We live in a small town and I have gone early to ask to view the ingredients. All appeared fine. It's not all that healthy, but what would a good movie be without popcorn. ;)

Every threater may be different. Always check first.

great advice, thanks to you all! I took a bag of Trix cereal for something crunchy, and took some banana chips. I bought a bag of Cheetos because I didn't see any gluten ingredients in them, but didn't open them. I'm going to have to try the microwave popcorn trick next time. Is it the Orville Redenbacher's brand that is gluten free? This is going to be an interesting learning curve, but I think I'll get there. This forum and all of the knowledge here will be an immense help.

Yes, we eat Orville Redenbacher Movie Theater Butter (I think that's the name).

      Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
