Toothpaste

Does this happen to any one else? My child and I both get a rash around the outside of our mouths from many brands of toothpaste. It kind of looks like a burn at first--red and warm. If use is continued it will become dry, itchy, and red. For me, it also makes the inside of my mouth peel--eww! We can both use only aqua fresh products, but only certain ones.

Some people are allergic to sodium lauryl sulfate. It's not a gluten ingredient, but it seems to be a fairly common allergen and it's in a LOT of toothpaste brands.

I actually get that too. I know it is not a gluten reaction though as I have Crest toothpaste and it is said to be gluten free.

My son has had a rash around his mouth for the last 6 weeks or so. I finally realized that it must be his toothpaste. He is using a gluten-free toothpaste, Aquafresh Kids, but maybe it is the sodium laurel sulfate.

This has been driving me crazy. I was wondering if it was something he was exposed to at school. I hope it is the toothpaste because that is an easy fix...except that he doesn't seem to like other toothpastes so far.

Does anyone know of a good one for kids that doesn't have allergens? He won't use Tom's. I prefer no fluoride for him because I am highly allergic to it.

My friend had this. Her dentist told her to try a fluoride free one and that did the trick.

Tom's of Maine makes a great line of toothpastes. All are gluten-free and the ingredients are listed in easy to read format. It was the one my new dentist told me to get but I have been using the cinnamin one for years now.

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
