I Ordered My Hla Test Last Night!

I got my tax return yesterday, so I did what I promised myself I'd do and went to the Enterolab site to order my HLA test. I'm just testing myself for starters and might test my son at a later date depending on the results of this one. I'm so excited! I can't wait to see the results. It can't be negative...there's too much that runs in our family. I'm really hoping it validates some of my suspicions.

Cool! I look forward to reading your results. DQ7.3 is associated with narcolepsy... so I'll be very curious to see if that turns up ;)

The "Narcolepsy gene" that Stanford discovered is DQB1*0602. I have read that DQB1*0603 is associated with gluten intolerance, and it is only one nucleotide different. Have you heard that? Because they did a study where 28% of Narcoleptics they screened had the *0603 variant and there are quite a few of us that are symptom free on a gluten-free diet. My dream is to go to grad school and do a clinical study of gluten intolerance in Narcoleptics. I know it will help a lot of people...if I could just get accepted to a school...lol. At this rate I'm sure someone will beat me to it, but I can still fantasize, can't I? :P

Do you have a link to somewhere where I can read more about DQ7.3? I'm still kind of an HLA noob. My specialty is more neuroscience and neuroendocrinology.

Here's the results!

HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0202

HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0301

Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 2,3 (Subtype 2,7)

I've done some research and 0301 is implicated in Narcolepsy, too, which I have. This totally validates everything I've hypothesized about my own health. Gluten triggers my Narcolepsy symptoms and now maybe I have the answer as to why. If I'm reading this right, I have 2 copies of 0301. Am I reading this right? They said in the analysis that I have 2 copies of one of these genes, and I can only guess it's the one next to "Allele 2".

Thanks for any input. :) I'm sooooo happy! I've been shunned from some Narcolepsy circles because I don't have the other, more prevalent gene, DQB1*0602. But it turns out I really do have a Narcolepsy gene...that doubles as a gluten intolerance gene. Yaaaay! Answers!! :D

That's awesome!! :D I know how good it feels to have some answers :)

So... you have one copy of DQ2 (the major one connected with celiac disease) and one copy of DQ7. I have a mixed HLA-DQ genotype too (DQ7, DQ8) and I suspect that's why my allergies are so bad. It's easy to develop allergies when your intestines are damaged by celiac disease... but I was already predisoposed to allergies because of the DQ7 gene. Argh

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
