100% gluten-free Shampoo?

I normally order gluten-free shampoo online (gfsoap.com), but the last thing I ordered never even shipped, and it's pricey, so I'm very tired of dealing with it. I am wanting to find a regular drug/grocery store available item in USA, that is dedicated gluten-free : Not companies that "clearly label ingredients" - that don't use any gluten on the equipment that processes the shampoos.

Does anyone know of such a shampoo? I heard Garnier Fruits is all gluten-free.. but is it processed on safe equipment?

PS : no "Do you eat (insert non food product)?" comments. Some of us have to be more careful than you.

I want to screeeeeam! Garnier told me over the phone "Some of our products contain the ingredient and others don't"

This shocked me, because of Garnier's reviews here on the site. Who started the rumor that Garnier was safe for sensitive celiacs and based on what? Did they tell someone before that all of their shampoos were gluten-free? Did they change their recipe or did I just get a misinformed employee on the phone?

For the love of washed hair, can't someone give me the name of an easy to find shampoo brand that wont make me ill?

Giovanni makes some good gluten free shampoos and conditioners but they do contain soy. I have an allergy to soy products so that makes it even harder to find hair products, if the Vitamin E they add isn't from wheat it's from soy and it is hard to find any skin or hair product that doesn't have E added nowadays. I use something that isn't technically shampoo, it is put out by a company called Nutribiotic and the one I use is 'Skin Cleanser' 'Fresh Fruit'. I really like it and although it is a skin cleaner it doesn't dry my hair out. On the rare occasions that I feel I need more conditioning I use a bit of warm olive oil combed through my hair before I shampoo. Just use a little bit though as if you use too much it can be hard to wash out.

This stuff is so much cheaper than what I was getting before, and they have all sorts of options : shampoos, shampoo/body-washes, and the facial cleanser you mentioned. They told me all of their products are gluten-free, but some may be produced on shared equipment in other places, so anyone sensitive ordering should ask about the specific products they're interested in before order. ;) I asked for a list of all items within said options that were dedicated gluten-free and soy, dairy and potato free, which they said they will email to me shortly. Very helpful staff.

As per the other brand, my significant other has a soy allergy, and I may or may not, so I don't go near the stuff, either.

The customer service agent was correct. Their position has always been that most of their products are gluten-free but as with most cosmetics not all of them are so you have to call to verify. The last info I have from them says that all of their shampoos and conditioners are gluten-free but some of their other products aren't. The only thickeners I've ever seen in their products are potato, rice or soy based. I don't use styling products so I haven't read the labels and don't know which of their other products contain gluten. Many of us use Garnier shampoos without issue. If it helps I'm hyper sensitive and haven't had any problems with the sleek & shine shampoo. I don't recall ever seeing anything about their processing though so I can't really answer your other questions. My info that all of their shampoos and conditioners are gluten-free is about 2 years old so it might be worth emailing them and asking again.

Oh no, potatoes and soy are a problem for me. :c It's a good thing I waited before trying the bottle I bought. On the phone, they told me some shampoos and conditioners they sell do now contain gluten, so they must have changed their formulas.

We use DHS brand but I can only find it at drugstore dot com

it's made by Person & Covey, Inc. and it's the fragrance free Clear Shampoo.

L'Oreal advised me that they cannot ascertain if their shampoos have gluten due

to the fragrance as that is where the gluten is hidden.

Other than being fragrance-free, do you know the actual status that company has on gluten? Not having obvious gluten ingredients isn't the same as being a dedicated CC-free product.

When I called Nutribiotic a couple of years ago the shampoos and conditioners were not gluten free at that point. That's why I use the skin cleaner as shampoo. If they are now would you please let me know?

Yes, they told me over the phone , my exact question "Are all of your products gluten-free?" "Yes, they are." however, not all of their products seem to be produced on dedicated lines, which is the email list I am waiting for. :)

Hi again, I just noticed from a post in another section that you live in an area that has a Wegmans. You may want to give them a call and see if any of the shampoos they sell under their label are safe. I have never asked. They are a very gluten savvy company and may have what you are looking for. I have never had a CC issue with any of their food products and they even know that distilled gluten grains are not safe. I was so happy to be able to eat a pickle I didn't make.

Oh wow, I had no idea; but I can't be too surprised, even Trader Joes doesn't have a gluten-free section like Wegmans does. Trader Joes deterred me from store brands, so it's good to hear there are some safe ones at least. I can't even imagine eating a store-bought pickle!

Sadly, it's too far out of my way (now) for me to take advantage of that. I used to be in the area regularly. :( But, with luck, someone reading this can go for it.

I don't know how far out of the way they are but all their safe name brand goods have a circle G on them. It makes buying canned goods, barbeque sauces, chips etc so much easier. I don't know what I would do without them. Might be worth the drive for you just for the time you would save reading labels.

None of the ingredients on its label are gluten-based, as per my gluten free ingredient guide from the Celiac Sprue Assn. but if it's a concern to you then please do not use it then since we do not know if it's made on a CC-free manufacturing line. I now wonder if when a "regular" company like Palmolive, Dove, Alberto-Culver, Protor and Gamble has a "gluten-free" status on a shampoo or cosmetic can they accurately say that they make it on a dedicated machinery line? I know that the answers I usually get from them are that the product is not made with gluten ingredients - like Garnier shampoo. Do they make it on dedicated lines? Good question. I wonder if that question will knock all of the standard markets out for you. Gee,it gives a pause to think - I thought of CC on food, but not on shampoo - I'll have to look into this.

That is weird....I just called Person & Covey Inc. before I saw that you had responded, and asked if their DHS shampoo and conditioners were gluten-free and the lady I spoke to said they were not gluten free. Maybe she was just uneducated? ;)

If you got a detailed response like that though, the lady you spoke with was probably more correct than the one I got....

      Desperately need a vitamin D supplement. I've reacted to most brands I've tried.

      Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.

      plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions...

      i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know. I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past...

      Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I...

      i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

      Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗

      I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again
