Can Anyone Tell Me What Direction The Gi Is Going?

Magician

Magician Rookie

After gong through all sorts of blood tests, gut tests, etc. my GI doc said I do not have Celiacs but encouraged me to begin following a gluten free diet 'if it made me feel better'.

So I started and almost immediately I began feeling so much better! I faithfully took my chelated Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc and also my vegetable digestive enzyme pill each day.

Out of the blue, the gut dr's office phones and says my last blood tests (done two months ago)

indicated I was 'severely anemic' and how did I feel? Truth be known I don't feel healthy at all. Tired. Weak.

She has requested the following blood tests of me:

HB

WBC

Diff

LDH (never heard of this one)

Indices

Plt

Ferrin

Fe Sat

Haptoglobin

Is she still searching for the anemia cause or what is she looking for? Don't know what the Haptoglobin test is.

Thank you for your help in alleviating my mind.

Magic

Most likely. She is probably trying to determine the type of anemia you have also.

Thanks, janetw. I still haven't had the requested blood tests taken. Probably at the end of the week I'll have them drawn and then go to my appt. to see her.

I haven't taken stayed true to following the celiac diet. I am such a sugar hog I feel ill if I do not eat any junk food. Can't get enough of the stuff.

Your 'addiction' to gluteny junk food combined with the anemia is a good indication that your doctors advice to follow the diet despite the negative test results was a good one. Can you find a gluten free junk food, perhaps chocolate for example, to 'binge' on? To get healing from the gluten-free diet you have to follow it strictly. For some of us gluten is a very addictive substance which fires the opiate type of receptors in the brain. There is a lot of treat food available that is gluten free. I am making vanilla cupcakes with chocolate chips both inside and melted for frosting this afternoon.

Awful terrible burning pains recently. Got suicidal thoughts from this crap yet again. I'm going to try doing low carb again as meat and veg type food has in the past reduced it. This is doing my head in.

Current careteam is still up in the air about my celiac thanks to me googling "celiac specialist" what popped  up was once known as a good name hospital back in the days. I went in for answers for my declining health, it was the autoimmune part that did me in, being a former bus driver.I read that in my medical records so easily downplayed, i refused the gluten challenge! Why the hell would I eat Gluten when im Celiac coming to them for answers when my body is falling apart? Glutenfree since 1994. They did unnecessary colonoscopy KNOWING im glutenfree. A celiac specialist would know that would be pointless to do if not eating gluten and it was done!Im so angery with that hospital for not explaining celiac disease and withholding information, Downplaying my ailments , mental distress,  causing more health issues, ect. All this could have been avoided If medical records were sent, when asked, explained and done properly. Im so angery.I do have the celiac dietitian on here in June and linked her up to my current health care yesterday, fingers crossed hopefully with that, the understanding of celiac is explained it's not just a food allergy will be understood.
