Going Out To Eat?

SO my college graduation is next saturday and my mom is coming out. She's wants to go out to eat afterwards, but there is really nowhere in this town I can eat out at...and nowhere under 30 mins away that will cater to gluten-free.

it's basically all fast food places with applebees, denny's being the only real sit down places and some locally run resturants that are really expensive (which might cater gluten-free) but to me its not even worth it b/c of price (like $20 meals!) and the risk of not feeling well. Plus they require reservations- blah! we definitly cant afford that...

I thought it would be better if I just made a nice dinner for my mom, but I dunno if that seems wierd (since I am the one graduating) but I really like cooking for other people...so i dunno...It would be nice to go out to eat, but like I said its not worth it. And I have talked to several resturants in the town before- they all have heard of gluten, but really dont understand it....just not worth the risk for me....

I understand where you are coming from, but it sounds like a great idea just to have dinner at your place. Since none of the restraunts you mention tend to have any food you can eat. And no, it is not wierd to make dinner even if you are the one graduating. Tell your ma about it so she can bring something that she has made, or she may even want to make dinner and bring it all her self, seeing that you are the one graduating. I don't know your ma so you would know how she would be. If you want to make dinner for starters, how about a salad, steak, baked potato. Just to give you an idea. Congrats on your graduation!

thanks! yeah. my mom still hasnt grasped the whole CC thing. I went over there for mothers day yeterday and couldn't eat the BBQ chicken my brother made b/c the sauce had wheat in it and he put the chicken on a baking tray that has been used to bake cookies with for years... They said "we can just wash he BBQ sauce off for you, theres not that much in there." I didnt get upset b/c I just assumed somehting like this would happen and brought my own noodle salad to eat. My family inderstands gluten-free but not CC...its just one of those things that will take forever for them to comprhend..if they ever do. but I dont bother them with it b/c I dont like causing stress or making people go out of the way for me. I just rather enjoy company and being happy rather than worrying about food....my family is based around food all the time lol

anyways...I'm just rambling...

Congratulations on your graduation!! My daughter graduated 2 weeks ago and we went back to my son's place and grilled some chicken. It was beautiful weather and we all just enjoyed being together. This Saturday she is coming here and we're throwing her an open house just for her in her hometown. I'm the one with celiac disease so I won't really have any special food for me as it's just cake and punch. I usually don't have time to eat at those occasions anyway.

I agree with you that the best thing is just being together and not stressing about the food.

well I suggested to my mom that I could make something at my apt. and she doesnt like the idea and still wants to go out to eat-lol. A friend suggested to a me a coffee shop in the town that I may be able to eat at. I looked at thier menu online and its basically salads and sandwiches. so I e-mailed them about the salads. its a privately owned place and the person who owns it went to culunary school....so maybe.....

if not. I saw grilles at wal mart for $9, I was thinking of buying one and just grilling chicken like you mentioned above  sounds way more fun to me!

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
