Thought id give a quick report on the gluten-free meals while I sit here watching Delhi's version of the Food Network. Now I"m really sorry I got sick!

I ordered gluten-free meals although since being diabetic I figured I could not eat much of what was served which was correct.

On AA from LA to London there were 2 meals, the first was shredded salmon on rice and a small salad, gluten-free shrink wrapped roll with no label other than this is gluten free. Asked them to take off all the rice which they did -- oil and vinegar on teh salad and that was it -- coul dnot have the ice cream and potatos that also came with the mail although they were gluten-free

Second meal was chicken in a sundried tomato sauce with a bunch of rice again.

chicken was cooked perfectly. that was about all i could handle.

British air from london to delhi was another great piece of chicken in curry.

The flight attendants were very good about making sure I got the meal I ordered.

I guess this flight has more special meals than anyother as many INdians are vegetarians.

2nd BA meal was an omlete which was fine. All thewse meals ca,e with a wide variety of salads with beats, yoghurts, fruit, gluten-free cookies and other things I could not eat as a diabetic.

Some british made gluten-free salad dressing in the little pouch had 24 grams of carbs so forget that!

all in all it wasnt bad -- not I have to figure out what a gluten free diabetic can eqat in India

Hi...

I flew from Denver to London last week and was appauled by the gluten free meal on the flight with BA.

I "think" it was chicken on a bed of spinach (!!). It was tasteless, bland and a poor attempt. However, the fruit was fresh and the staff on board were brilliant.

I would rather go without when I return to the USA next month, I will eat before boarding the flight and will wait until I get to the other end before attempting food.

Just my opinion! :)

Not sure if Virgin Atlantic is an option for you out of Denver but they have excellent gluten-free meals on board. They are pretty basic but you get a small, good salad and fruit for dessert. Their meals have always been good but they generally are salmon or chicken over rice with a veg.

It was filling and better than most frozen gluten-free meals you buy in the US. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were.

Guess I was pretty lucky- I was surprised at how hot the container was that the food came in.

Dont think it could be called a dish.

Mine was farily tasty, perhaps since it was the Delhi bound flight

I am anticipating??? a couple of gluten free meals on ANZ in about three weeks. While I wouldn't exactly describe them as "cuisine", what we were offered last time was not bad, although the things they called "rolls" you could have played golf with!! :rolleyes: (or maybe tenpin bowling) :lol:

been awhiole since I was on UA international and usually stick with American and JAL.

Indian Jet Airways yesterday was not bad even if I could not have the rice with it.

I am flying back to the USA with United Airlines next month, so not sure if they do a gluten-free option, but if BA are anything to go by, I would rather skip it and wait until I get to my destination!

Well, you could say Air New Zealand keep trying and failling to hit the mark. The rolls this time fell apart before you could even get the spread anywhere near them. I had assumed that they combined gluten free and dairy free since the rolls came with a soy spread which I could not touch. However, that theory went out the window when breakfast arrived and there was not only another roll with soy spread, but a carton of milk rather than the yogurt I had been looking forward to. The rest of the passengers got butter and yogurt; be careful of what you ask for. The rest of the breakfast was listed as scrambled eggs but looked like yellow curds and whey, accomanied by a so-called breakfast sausage which turned out to be soy :( At least the small bowl of melon was okay. Take your own, anyone??

      So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

      hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
