Nuts!

I have been gluten-free for over a year and a 1/2 and I have been doing an elimination diet for nuts. Well, it seems along with peanuts that I also have almonds as a foe.

My question is what do you substitute for nuts? I am a nut fanatic, espcially since I don't do sugar so, I eat peanut butter-crunchy.

How truly decent are the other nut butters? I don't want to spend the money if they are awful. I figured maybe one of them, non-crunchy, may be okay.

I've never tried anything other than peanut butter, but I love cream cheese and jelly. Hummus on pita bread is good too.

Sarah,

Have no fear the other nut butters taste terrific. I just wish I could afford to buy them more often. My favorite is macadamia nut butter. It is easy to make your own also. Just grind your favorite nut, sunflower seed, or pumpkin seed. You can buy sunflower seed butter that is very close to peanut butter. I like and enjoy them all. Just enter the name Futter's and you will find a nice selection. You can also get coconut.

Susan

I love creamy "Sunbutter" which is made from sunflower seeds. It is expensive (close to $6.00 per jar) but nutritious. Keep in mind that Sunbutter is manufactured in a facilty that uses soy to maufacture other products.

Thanks for all of your quick posts-as you could sense I am desperate! I have eliminated so much that I feel like there is not much left! I know that is not true but, for a peanut freak it sure feels like it!

I looked up Sunbutter sample and they are currently giving away 1.5 pkgs. If you need to sample it here is your chance b-4 you buy.

Just send them an e-mail with your address to: sunbutter@redriv.com

I am allergic to all nuts as well as peanuts and sesame so eat sunflower seeds a lot and recently started using sunflower seed butter. They have various kinds. You can order one from Whole Foods that doesn't have any sugar. Most do seem to have sugar in them. The Trader Joe's variet seems to have the most sugar. Most seem to be cross contaminated with other nut butters...So far that hasn't been a problem for me but I could see that for someone it might. The tastiest one I have used so far is sunflower seed butter from Once Again Nut Butter. They have a site online.

Congrats! Can you share the recipe? We just picked up a bread maker from an estate sale and are experimenting.
