The folks over at USASillyYaks noticed that on Oprah's site that they are looking for people with odd disorders, so many people have been posting their letters under that topic at the Oprah site. Just thought I would give you all a heads up on that.

How is the letter writing going for everyone??

-Jessica

Hey. I just got finished e-mailing about 20 companies (most of them that were on here already). But I also added about 2 --one news station & one newspaper -- from my area to the list. I e-mail the generic e-mail, but with a msg at the top, explaining how long I've had it, and that it's imporant to me, and to get the msg out...etc...so that it'd be a bit more personal. Well, I hope it works! Good luck everyone! :D

I emailed about 50 news stations and shows so far.

I also put in for the Oprah show and gave my story with a brief letter.

I plan to snail mail some companies and am finishing up the letters now...also contacting local stations.

Hey there! I am a newbie but wanted to kick in some support. I sent a bunch of emails out to the places that Katie listed. Hopefully someone will hear something! I live near Milwaukee. There was a big article in the paper in past years about celiacs. They were referencing the Gluten Free Trading Company here in Milwaukee. It will be exciting to see if this campaign gets responses! I'll watch for updates!

OOPS! Sorry Kaiti not Katie!!

I rec'd an email from the TODAY Show.  They are going to air a segment

on Celiac May 10 with cooking demos.

Not for sure on this, trying to still do some checking, but I believe it is an Australian today show that is having the segment.

:D

1.How did you manage to write all those letters in two days!

2.Please can we copy your letter in the U.K. but with adaptations (to cater for the fact that some people get certain foods on doctor's prescription at a flat rate - not me though - and that our national coeliac society publishes a food and drink directory with monthly amendments).

3.Our coeliac awareness week is around 20th of May but we ought to be thinking of 2006. I can't write any letters in time this year!

Fabulous work, hoping lots of benefit comes!

:D

You are welcome to use my letter.

Copy and paste the letter and send it as an email is the fastest way for me personally.

Good luck with your letter writing campaign in the UK!!! Let us know how that goes.

-Jessica

Shall have to discuss with people whom to mail it to. Perhaps this will be ready for 2006!

Kaiti you are a doll! I just love you! You never stop amazing me. Thanks for all the info. I don't know you but, you have helped me on the darkest day of my life with the death of my Auntie her feeding tube and celiac disease testing. I am forever a fan. I thank God for your big heart and kindness.

I'm going to do some letter writing.

Cristiana, that sounds like a great approach and I will be looking forward to the results. I am in the same boat as you. I don't experience overt symptoms with minor, cross contamination level exposures so I sometimes will indulge in those "processed on equipment that also processes wheat . . ." or items that don't specifically claim to be gluten free but do not list gluten containing grains in their ingredient list. But I always wonder if I am still experiencing sub acute inflammatory reactions. I haven't had any celiac antibody blood work done since my diagnosis almost 25 years ago so I don't really have any data to go by.

I've been reflecting on this further. The lowest TTG I've ever managed was 4.5 (normal lab reading under 10).  Since then it has gone up to 10.   I am not happy with that.  I can only explain this by the fact that I am eating out more these days and that's where I'm being 'glutened', but such small amounts that I only occasionally react. I know some of it is also to do with eating products labelled 'may contain gluten' by mistake - which in the UK means it probably does! It stands to reason that as I am a coeliac any trace of gluten will cause a response in the gut.  My villi are healed and look healthy, but those lymphocytes are present because of the occasional trace amounts of gluten sneaking into my diet.   I am going to try not to eat out now until my next blood test in the autumn and read labels properly to avoid the may contain gluten products, and will then report back to see if it has helped!

Hi, I posted before about my son's legs shaking after gluten. I did end up starting him on vit b and happily he actually started sleeping better and longer.  Back to my 4 year old. She had gone back to meltdowns, early wakes, and exhaustion. We tested everything again and her ferritin was lowish again (16) and vit d was low. After a couple weeks on supplements she is cheerful, sleeping better and looks better. The red rimmed eyes and dark circles are much better.   AND her Ttg was a 3!!!!!! So, we are crushing the gluten-free diet which is great. But WHY are her iron and vit d low if she's not getting any gluten????  She's on 30mg of iron per day and also a multivitamin and vit d supplement (per her dr). That helped her feel better quickly. But will she need supplements her whole life?? Or is there some other reason she's not absorbing iron? We eat very healthy with minimal processed food. Beef maybe 1x per week but plenty of other protein including eggs daily.  She also says her tummy hurts every single morning. That was before the iron (do not likely a side effect). Is that common with celiac?

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:
