Should I Eat Breat (gluten) Before The Blood Test?

Hi,

I have received a blood test requisition from my Family Dr. to check if I am gluten sensitive. The name of the test is Iga antiendomysial antibodies.

He said that this is very reliable test.

I do not eat bread or grains on every day basis... sometimes I can go without bread for weeks! So my question is should I eat bread before the test?

Thank you!

Yes, you need to eat at least several slices of bread daily, preferably whole wheat, for at least 6 weeks before the test or you might get a false negative. Also you need to get the entire celiac panel, found here: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=59774

Welcome to the board, good luck, and I hope you find your answer soon.

Yes, the U of Chicago Celiac Center reccomends 6 weeks of gluten ingestion for children. I would guess adults would be the same my friend's DD did it for 6 weeks and she was 20 YO.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
