I'm also new to this diet. Is coffee ok? I've been reading alot and thought it was but since I drink a couple of cups in the am I thought I better ask for sure.

Assuming that it doesn't have any ingredients added to the coffee beans themselves that contain gluten. (I don't know how often than happens with coffee, but I know tea will occasionally contain barley, depending on the flavor.) Plain coffee, nothing but roasted coffee beans, is fine. Be careful of the additives, of course.

I am a decaf drinker and have been told that regularly decaf coffee can have gluten in it but that water process doesn't. I don't know the science behind that or even if it's true but I try to only get water process decaf now. I have had regular decaf though and no reaction.

I too drink coffee every morning. As long as there aren't any questionable additives then it's ok!

I know Folgers is ok :D I drink their decaf

Never found a regular, decaf or even flavored coffee (although I still check on any flavored ones) with gluten. I also heard the rumor about decaf having gluten but never found one in three years. There is one flavor at Starbucks with gluten, but only because they add something like brownies to it right in front of you.

I have never reacted to a decaf, water processed or not, but avoid those that aren't water-processed just to be on the safe side. Of course my favorite coffee place, Peets, has been giving out free coffee all this month and I've been drinking whatever decaf they have made, so I don't follow this rule at all times. No reaction, though.

A drink with brownies obviously added? I mean, come on, I thought we were talking about *coffee*! That's no coffee! Sheesh!

For anyone who likes to add a creamer....I drink tea and i just called "International Creamer-French Vanilla" (i think that is what it is called?, well anyway it is a blue bottle and shapped like a bowling pin). The French Vanilla is gluten-free. I just called them yesterday and was really excieted about it, because I love that stuff!!! :D

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

@GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.
