Are there any support groups in Michigan? I live in southeast michigan, but go to school at Central michigan in mt. pleasant. Anyone else from Michigan?

Nope, I don't go to any of those... I live in New York City, lol :lol: . Just got the list off this site...

Oh! Oops, you mean support groups in general :) ...I haven't. I like these online ones and most of them aren't in Manhattan--they're in some other borough, often Long Island. I thought about it in the beginning, but found this board to be a more valuable resource ;)

I went to some support groups a few times when I was younger w/ my mom. THey were actually in michigan too! I think they helped me as a kid because it was the first time I saw other people like me. We didn't have the internet back then and stuff like that. I think they help because you get to talk to people and get stories about how they handle things and what they do. But as celiac3270 said, this online thing is kinda just the same. But I encourage you to go though. They may be different by now, I went when I was about 12 and now i'm 23 so i'm sure they have changed, You are from the south east, the Tri County Group down there does a lot of stuff. They even have a website www.tccsg.com. Actually on the 30th of april they are having a food fair. Anyways hope this helps.

Thanks Dave, yeah I'm defiantely glad for this website- it helps out a lot. I don't thikn I'd be very comfrotable going to a support group. Where are you from? When does Ferris state get out? I'm finally done with classes- only 2 days of finals left!

I went to the gluten-free food fair on Saturday.

Whole Foods market was there with samples of the gluten-free bakery items. They were great! The products are in the store available this week!

If anyone wants doughnuts, I suggest Celiac Specialties in Chesterfield, Mi. If you live downriver, Celiac Products www.celiacproducts.net they are in Wyandotte, Mi. The store is opening this week, no specific date was given. They are going to carry Celiac specialty bakery products and they are very nice people to talk to.

There were to chefs that would cater special events. One was selling special spice blends. One was offering in home services. He will come into your house and prepare meals in advance for you.

Bean flour and bean flour products were everywhere.

The gluten free beer was great! Never realized I missed til I tasted it.

I had a nice time. They were a lot of knowledgeable people there. I even got to see a Detroit sports icon there too.

:unsure: My doctor told me there is a support group here in SE Michigan, but I forgot which city it was in. Today is the first day I am on the diet. From what I see so far, this is a great site.

Wow--look at all of you from Michigan. Michigan is where I was born and raised. I also raised my children there and my grandkids are growing up there. I live on Long Island New York now and love it. My sister is a member of the Lansing area celiac group. I have gone to a celiac group here---Suffolk County Celiacs. The meetings are nice, but it's always about tasting foods and they meet often at restuarants and I just dont enjoy it. There are so many things I cant have now. We had gluten-free pizza and gluten-free choc cake one night and I was so sick in the morning, I almost missed work. I dont enjoy that--so, I normally dont go. I did attend the night that Dr. Peter Green from Columbia U came and that was very interesting. Deb

      I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets...

      M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values. Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. I use them as a gluten free substitute...

      I see it everyday on my feeds. They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts. I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field. Some days I would just like to scream. So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach...

Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver.After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
