Gluten Intolerance Vs. Celiac Disease..how Can You Tell?

My son is almost 4 years old. He is allergic to wheat and oats. He is tested every 6 months to find out the level of his intolerance. At this point it's a 2 (moderate)and every time he's tested it comes down a little. He's been on a gluten free diet since he was a year old which is when he tested positive for wheat intolerance. My question is this, how do I know that what he has is not Celiac disease? How can I tell the difference between an food allergy and Celiac disease? Are the symptoms similar?

My son tested negative for wheat allergy, negative for the celiac blood test but had a positive biopsy (waiting on the genetics test results) for Celiac Disease. I would assume the only way to truly know is to go to a specialist and get tested.

Is there anyway to know by symptoms?

From my understanding no, I was also told that the only way to know for sure about Celiac is a positive biopsy. The GI doc said that is the only for sure way to be certain.

Did they test for allergy (IgE) or intolerance (IgG/IgA)?

They are completely different.

      Thank you. I must have misinterpreted a study or something. Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated. Almost three years into my celiac diagnosis and I'm still learning new things.

      Manitol and mri

      I wasn’t clear, glucagon and gadolinium were intravenous. I drank about 5 cups of the prep during 45 minutes. I feel very tired now, probably partly because I was nervous, and partly because I had to fast for 6 hours beforehand and wasn’t very hungry when I got home.

      That seems at lot of solution to have put threw you when you already have bowel issues , I will phone them tomorrow because it's sorbitol I have reactions too, thankyou for the input how do you feel now ? I'm not sure I can keep still for that long with my back issues either unfortunately I didn't know it could take that long 😕

      The solution I had to drink contained sorbitol and mannitol. I was in the MRI, lying on my back, for about 40 minutes. I was given glucagon partway through, and a gadolinium contrast agent. After I got home there was some diarrhea from the prep solution.
