Don't be nervous.

You will be out for it.

What they give you to put you out you should ask. I ask because I knew that opiates and I don't mix so I asked them to go easy on the fentonel (sp?).

Also, there are no nerve/pain receptors in the tissue of the esophagus or in the intestines so any tissue they take you will not feel any pain.

The only thing that you may possibly feel is the sensation of having something stuck down your throat for a few days afterwords.

That will pass.

Otherwise, it's much better than getting a colonoscopy!!

I was very scared about it as well but everything went okay.

You will go in and they will insert an IV line. Then you wait your turn. If you are very nervous some doctors will give you an oral sedative to take at home before you go but there really is nothing to be nervous about. You will go into the endo room and they will put you to sleep. You will wake up and go home. That's it. Make sure you bring someone with you as you will not be able to drive or operate machinery for the rest of the day. Many are a bit sleepy afterward.

As mentioned you shouldn't have any pain at all from the procedure or the biopsies.

The day you have your biopsies done you can start a trial of the diet, you don't need to wait for the results. False negatives are all too common so a dietary trial is needed no matter what the results. If you had positive blood work you do need to be on the diet and the biopsy will be to check how much damage has been done.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.

I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon. There are 5 known members of the herpes virus family including chicken pox that commonly infect humans, and they all cause lifelong infections. The exact cause of viral reactivation as in the case of shingles or cold sores is not well understood, but stress, sunburn and radiotherapy treatment are known triggers. Some of the herpes viruses are implicated in triggering autoimmune diseases: Epstein-Barr virus is suspected of triggering multiple sclerosis and lupus, and there is a case where it is suspected of triggering coeliac disease. As to whether coeliac disease can increase the likelihood of viral reactivation, there have been several cohort studies including a large one in Sweden suggesting that coeliac disease is associated with a moderate increase in the likelihood of developing shingles in people over the age of 50. US 2024 - Increased Risk of Herpes Zoster Infection in Patients with Celiac Disease 50 Years Old and Older Sweden 2018 - Increased risk of herpes zoster in patients with coeliac disease - nationwide cohort study

BFree bread is fortified with vitamins and minerals as is ASDA own-brand gluten-free bread. All the M&S bread seems to be fortified also.
