I Have Fingernails!

India

...After six months of very little progress - still feeling bloated and icky, should post about that soon - I noticed today that my fingernails are getting longer and stronger. Not sure if I should put it down to coeliac recovery or my efforts to increase my calcium intake but hey, one part of my is looking healthier. Woooo!

I used to bite my nails all the time. I noticed after going gluten free my nails were longer and I wasn't doing that anymore??? I've been gluten free for two months and still having pain and bloating. I am having a difficult time with CC. I think.

I have healthy nails again too. Isn't it great?

One suggestion, if your "increased calcium intake" is due to increased dairy, perhaps you need to cut that out for a while to see if the pain and bloating goes away.

Thanks for your replies... I've had a lactose intolerance test but wondering if casein could be a problem nonetheless? I'm in the UK and I've never heard it mentioned here but I'm curious about it. I'm thinking about trying an elimination diet but still deciding on the details.

CC could also be an issue... my home is gluten free but I've noticed I have this strange lip-tingling thing that only happens when I'm away from home. I'm really strict about what I eat so I'm not sure what to do about that, except obsessive handwashing :/

Thankfully those are normal. B12 was on the low end of the normal range when I first got diagnosed. When I last got it checked, it had come up a lot (455 last time checked).

You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/  I didn't notice any gluten ingredients in Kirkland Almond non-dairy beverage, however it does contain Locust Bean Gum. Some gums may cause IBS-type issues in some people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity:

Have you had B12 levels checked?

For the past few months, I've been taking several supplements (a multi-vitamin, an iron supplement, a vitamin C supplement, and a magnesium supplement), all of which state that they are gluten free on the label.

Maltodextrin is typically made from corn.
