Confusing Blood Tests

I recently had my 6 year old daughter tested for Celiac due to family history (myself, my sister, and my uncle) and her constant complaints of her stomach aching as well as some fatigue (she would sleep for 13+ hours once a week or so). Her blood tests results are listed below:

Gliadin IGG 13.7 (<10 is normal according to lab) POSITIVE

Gliadin IGA 0.9 (<5 is normal) NEGATIVE

TTG IGG 7.1 (6-9 is a weak positive) POSITIVE

TTG IGA 1.6 (<4 is negative) NEGATIVE

Both IGG were positive and both IGA were negative. Her regular pediatrician said yes she has it, so we started her on a gluten free diet. It has been less than a week so it is hard to tell if it is working. We DO NOT want to do a biopsy on her. I have asked for a referral to a GI, but I know she will have to be back on gluten before going. I guess I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the confusing blood tests. Does it seem like she has? Why are her IGA levels so low?

It may be that she's IgA deficient. They could test total IgA and tell you for sure.

That is quite possible, did they do a total IGA?

Also if you are going to do more testing you need to keep her on gluten. If you are not going to biopsy then go ahead and get her on the diet strictly but keep in mind that when she gets to the GI any tests he does will be negative if she is on the diet already.

Also with those positive results it is a good idea to have everyone in the family screened.

      Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

      What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.
