Results From Endoscopy - Negative

Hello Everyone,

I finally got the results back from the endoscopy. Negative for H pylori and negative for Celiac.

Here are the findings:

A Small intestine, biopsy; small intestinal mucosa with no significant pathologic changes, overall villous architecture intact. Show mild gastritis.

B Esophagus, biopsy: Esophageal mucosa with no significant pathologic changes

My Dr said I do NOT have Celiac Disease and that I shouldn't even try a gluten-free diet. I told him my bowels have been messed (meaning I have D every morning 2 to 3 times without cramps though and it isn't causing any abdominal pain) up ever since trying a gluten-free diet for 3 weeks and then going off of it.

I asked if I could be gluten intolerant and he said NO that the symptoms would effect my bowels and that I would have SEVERE intestinal cramping and that the inflammation I am experiencing is not related.

He did say he could send me to U of M hospital for further testing, but that he was almost certain I didn't have it. Then he said, I am not saying that you couldn't have it, but I think most likely you do NOT have it.

Hmmmmm. Is this true? From what I have read, gluten can effect people in other ways then abdominal pains. He told me not to deprive myself of gluten when I don't have a problem.

I'm just looking for hope. I need to rule out some other things before trying to go gluten-free again.

Thank you so much

Susan

You have had your biopsy and if you have had blood work done you can give the diet a good try now. As to celiac D always giving people bad cramps well for the first 7 or 8 years when my D was a daily occurance it was painless. For me this was a real issue because it could strike with no warning at all. Later on the horrible pain did develop.

Going on the diet to see if it helps is not going to interfere with testing for other issues. It will only effect screening for celiac. I would give the diet a good strict try for a bit as it may do away with symptoms and negate the need for testing for other stuff.

I almost never have cramping with D--as was suggested, I would give the gluten-free diet a try. Endoscopy is not without false negatives.

Just out of curiosity, would you mind sharing which GI you saw? I dealt with/conversed with a few of the ones down in Miami when I used to live there and some of them I knew were absolutely clueless/10 years behind on their gluten knowledge.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
