Isn't It Supposed To Be Fall?

Argh... Its not even Halloween yet, and guess what? We got like 4 inches of snow or so in the valley. Probably a good foot and a half in the Mountains. I really should be used to this by now, after the almost six years of living here. It snows every Halloween. But no... I ain't. Whatever happened to fall? It feels like we only had like not even a month of fall! Course summer ain't ever very long. And Spring? Forget that. You can be recieving a foot of snow even in June! Winter doesn't end usually until end of April/Early May. If you are lucky.

But still, a snowy Halloween? It reminds me of that song "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas." Except the reverse. I'm dreaming of a Clear Halloweeen where I don't have to wear a winter coat with a big bulky sweater underneath and then my halloween costume... (Should I choose to wear one.)

Utah weather is NOT normal... But then again I ain't lived in a state where the whether is normal. Idaho winters start and end at about the same time... (if not start sooner and end later) In Washington DC, cold is 40 degrees fahrenheit (And the city closes down completely if you get more than a half an inch of snow. Hence last winter, it was closed down almost the whole winter. And in utah you can be going to school still in three feet of snow! How is that fair?). And of course, there's California... which we don't even need to go into. (Not that I have lived there, but my sister did and so did one of my brothers.)

And I am rambling again... "Shutting up sir...I mean ma'am" (Name that Movie!)

I guess you don't want to hear it's 70 today here in upstate NY. Of course it was 40 last week. We got lucky this year. Way to many snowsuit halloweens here also over the years. You could always go as a 'ski bunny' in your snowsuit with cardboard 'bunny ears' taped to you earwarmers.

This weather! I'm in northern New Jersey and it's been in the low 70's for several days. It's actually humid today--more like late spring than autumn.....

It's a tad chilly today but it was warm for the past few days.

A few years ago we had freezing weather on Halloween. It had been warm the year before and the year before that. So I came up with the bright idea of decorating the garage. I couldn't use all of it because we use it for storage. I say garage because it has a garage door on it. But the room itself is not large enough for a car. Well, maybe a Smart Car would fit in there. But not a regular vehicle.

We went a few feet back and hung some purple vinyl tablecloths and also some decorated thingies that are meant to cover the door. We put up all sorts of drapes, spider webs and scary stuff. That whole area was fully decorated. Then we put stuff out to form a trail leading to the garage. Inside we had a treasure chest that we had made up, full of toys for the Trick or Treaters. We didn't do candy that year.

Then as luck would have it, after we went to all that trouble it was just too cold to sit out there! I even went out and bought a little heater that turned out to be a joke in such cold weather. I believe it was windy too. Daughter and I took turns manning the treasure chest. Then we would dash into the laundry room where I had the wall heater on full blast. We would try to get warm and then go back out again. It was not fun! And we didn't get too many kids, probably because of the temp.

I do not know what to make of this winter. I have two Farmer's Almanacs and both say while wetter than usual, it will not get to freezing and there will be no snow. But every time I turn on the news, they say we will have a horrid winter like 2 years ago where 3 feet of snow fell in a matter of hours. Where we live, we were pretty much stuck in our house for 2 weeks. Luckily we had plenty of canned food. Husband was able to get us out once during that time to restock the food. But then he couldn't get the cart to the van. The parking lot was just sooo icy! He kept falling and losing control of the cart. It was horrible. We didn't have Christmas until New Year's Eve and we got our tree up late because we couldn't get to the back house to get it!

It was supposed to be 60 here today but snow instead. Staying in to make sure I don't get sicker before procedure. BTW, I bought those socks with rubber dots on bottom to wear to bed. I did wake up VERY dizzy his morning so I stayed in bed for an hour or two (thought my bladder would burst-TMI?). Bruise FINALLY healing and I am NOT going to fall again if I can help it!!!!

Loey don't be reluctant to get a cane to keep by your bed. The extra 'foot' can help to stave off some of those falls.

Thank you!!! I actually have my son's hidden in my closet (he was extremely annoying with it after his Charlie Chaplin phase in high school) so I will get it out today. Better than holding it in for two hours. My poor hubby didn't get much sleep because I was shivering and my teeth were chattering. My hands were two ice cubes. I didn't want to wake him when he fell back asleep to help me get up. Someone also posted that since I went off of the Donnatal cold turkey it could be causing the dizziness.

Right now I'm a real mess but I plan on getting better one day at a time. I have a lot to be grateful for and try to think of that daily. Need to read the unemployment info about going on to disability. I can't work right now.

I am going to tutor a girl who's dyslexic for free. I met her family at the Farmer's Market and she was in third grade (I've taught K-6, G&T, regular ed and special ed) and can tell what age a child is and what grade they should be in. She used her fingers to count change. I spoke to her mother and she said she was home schooled and dyslexic. I offered to tutor her for free. I haven't taught for over a year and need to get back into it. She'll write me a letter of recommendation, barter with eggs and get me references for people who will pay me to tutor. That might be a better route for me while I'm healing.

Sorry this was so long. Thanks for always being there with a great answer!

Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

@tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues. I studied nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology because I was curious what the vitamins were doing inside the body.  See my blog.  Click on my name to go to my page, scroll to drop down menu "activities" and select blog.   So glad you're motivated to see the dietician!  We're always happy to help with questions.  Keep us posted on your progress!

Thank you for sharing all of this, Knitty Kitty! I did just want someone to share some commonality with. I did not know This one Deficiency was a thing and that it's common for Celiac Disease. It makes sense since this is a disorder that causes malabsorption. I will have to keep this in mind for my next appointments. You also just spurred me on to make that Dietician appointment. There's a lot of information online but I do need to see a professional. There is too much to juggle on my own with this condition.<3

I think your initial idea, eat gluten and be tested, was excellent. Now you have fear of that testing, but isn’t there also a fear each time you eat gluten that you’re injuring your body? Possibly affecting future fertility, bone health and more? Wouldn’t it be better to know for sure one way or the other? If you test negative, then you celebrate and get tested occasionally to make sure the tests don’t turn positive again. If you test positive, of course the recommendation from me and others is to stop gluten entirely.  But if you’re unable to convince yourself to do that, could a positive test at least convince you to minimize your gluten consumption?  Immune reactions are generally what is called dose response, the bigger the dose, the bigger the response (in this case, damage to your intestines and body). So while I am NOT saying you should eat any gluten with a positive test, the less the better.

@Riley., Welcome to the forum, but don't do it!  Don't continue to eat gluten!  The health problems that will come if you continue to eat gluten are not worth it.  Problems may not show up for years, but the constant inflammation and nutritional losses will manifest eventually.  There's many of us oldsters on the forum who wish they'd been diagnosed as early.    Fertility problems, gallbladder removal, diabetes, osteoporosis and mental health challenges are future health issues you are toying with.   To dispel fear, learn more about what you are afraid of.  Be proactive.  Start or join a Celiac group in your area.  Learn about vitamins and nutrition.   Has your mother been checked for Celiac?  It's inherited.  She may be influencing you to eat gluten as a denial of her own symptoms.  Don't let friends and family sway you away from the gluten-free diet.  You know your path.  Stick to it.  Be brave.
