Recent Diagnosis - Dh & Celiac

I was diagnosed with DH and thus Celiac Sprue. I've been gluten-free for nearly two months now, strict adherence including label reading, medications etc. I'm still experiencing breakouts on my knees, hands, elbows, ears, and recently around my eyes. Do I need to make sure my make-up, lotions, creams, etc. are gluten-free?

For some folks, it does. Sounds like it's time to go gluten-free with everything that touches your body!

It took about 6 months for my rashes to go away after going completely gluten-free, and can take 1-2 years for some people. If I get glutened then the areas of the rashes tend to be itchy for a few days, but no bumps. I had to go completely gluten-free because even minor cc caused me problems. I'm more sensitive to gluten now than before I went gluten-free. You may be still getting some cc, or your detox may just need some time.

i only have a small patch on my stomach... it flared up a few weeks after i went 100% gluten free. i continue to eat sea salt & seafood (iodine).. and have not been able to eliminate irritating foods like Dairy or Corn..

anyways, im starting my 5th month gluten free- and i also started applying this Silver ointment from whole foods- and the itch is gone, and it is STARTING to fade..

I went with "Surface" for my hair products and check all other I put on me! I had significant hair loss and changing shampoo REALLY helped!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
