Philly Swirl

I think it was on this list that I read about Philly Swirls... someone had said they spoke to the company owners and what not. Right on the box they say gluten-free and peanut/tree nut free. They are tasty... HOWEVER... I've been giving them to my daughter who has a life threatening allergy to peanuts and I didn't read the fine print on the box... it clearly says they are made in a facility that uses peanuts and tree nuts. I was shocked. I just wanted anyone who has a nut allergy to know this!

Your daughter IS safe

right off of the box: for both Swirl Stix and Italian Ice

This Product is Peanut/Tree Nut Free and Gluten Free

Manufactured in a Peanut and Tree Nut FREE facility, meaning there are no life threatening peanut or tree nut allergens in their facility.

I spoke with Alex Plotkin. They are very conscientious about allergens and would not advertise it to be peanut and tree nut free or even manufactured in a facility that has it.

Oh dear.... I'm so embarrassed... did I read it wrong?? I'm so sorry I hope I didn't panic anyone! We are so happy now, my daughter loves this stuff, I can't begin to tell you how many of them we have eaten over the past couple of weeks!

Thank You Nini....

Susan

LOL! It's ok, it happens to the best of us... just thought I'd pop in here with the correct info before anyone threw out their boxes of Philly Swirl! We LOVE Philly Swirl around here and when I saw that post last night I just knew "something was wrong in Denmark" so I pulled both boxes out of the freezer just to make sure! I was worried for a minute, but when I read the box I just cracked up laughing and though to myself "she must be tired"!!!

Actually its true, I was tired and I want to say that the Philly Swirl people called me (I e-mailed them) and spoke to me about it. They really were very nice... I enjoyed the conversation with them. Its a great company and both my daughter and I love them, very tasty!! Try them, everyone!

Yes--very nice people and they're small enough that they respond to every e-mail personally. Unfortunately, the company is in financial trouble because not enough stores want to carry their products. So spread the word! :(

I love Philly Swirl! Very nice people run it... I really hope they stay open

I cannot seem to find Philly Swirl in Southern California, not even at Costco. Anyone able to find it around here?

lovegrov Collaborator

Walmart used to carry it. Not sure if they still do.

yeah, the phillyswirl owner is so unbelieveably nice. i bought a couple of boxes recently--they are good. i esp like the italian ice kind... (and nice since i started dairy-free for a few weeks today!)

My best advice is to request that your local grocery store carry it, the more often you ask the more likely they are to stock it.

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
