What About Brown Rice?

THe other day I purchased a bag of brown rice (generic) and ground it up in my vita-mix into flour. In anyone's opinion...am I poisoning myself eating this and using it for baking? DO you all call every manufacturer? I dont have too much $$ to buy the specialty flours and such so I thought I might grind my own?

Do these companies really know if their food is contaminated with wheat or not? I am so confused...

Brown rice is gluten free. As far as cross contamination goes, I am very sensitive and have never had a problem with any rice. Rice is gluten free and safe for us to eat.

I eat brown rice a couple times a week with no problems.Enjoy.

THanks--I was just concerned as the flax seeds and quinoa that I bought in bulk I was advised by the company not to use them because of possible CC. The rice is from a different place though. Dont any rice packagers also process wheat in their facilities? I just dont know how careful I need to be! T

I have used brown rice several years and have had no problems....as far as contamination goes....I don't think rice is even grown in a area where they grow wheat, etc....I grind my own brown rice flour too....I even grind it course for grits....and yes flour from the health food store is too expensive for me too.....I haven't had any problems with the rice.....

I love brown rice. Tasty stuff and totally gluten-free!

I make my own brown rice cereal. The texture is similar to steel cut oats, or Irish oatmeal.

I grind the rice on the coarsest level in our coffee grinder, then mix 1/4 cup brown rice cereal w/ 1 and 1/2 cup liquid (I personally use half water and half milk) and cook it in the microwave for 9 minutes at half power. Let it sit for another couple of minutes. Then fix it up w/ whatever you like (I use home made vanilla extract and a little brown sugar).

Delicious, and that little bit fills me up until lunch.

FYI, I buy cheap brown rice at the grocery store and haven't had a problem. But, I'm not super sensitive, either.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
