Itchy Rash All Over

Hey everyone,

Yesterday morning I noticed a really itchy rash along my neckline, upper chest & front shoulders. Throughout the day, I had severe pain in my ribcage & sternum bone.

Today the rash is pretty much all over - even in my eyes.

Anyone know if these symptoms are caused by celiac - possibly by a later stage celiac?

Little history: biopsy showed stage 4 villi atrophy. Blood test titer was 34 (normal is less than 20), thyroid is normal, moderate vitamin deficiency.

Today my G.I pawned me off to my primary physician for the rash - said to go to urgent care. I ended up just taking a Benadryl, which gave me about 2 hours of relief.

I'm using Dr. Bronner's soap, but still Aveda hair products - could the rash possibly be from certain bath products?

This is frustrating & scary.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

Before I found out I had Celiac DH, the pharmacist suggested I might be allergic to PABA which is contained in a lot of soaps, shampoos, conditioners and lotions.

A rash like that is scary and frustrating. If Benadryl doesn't resolve it you might need to go to the Dr. Not that they can really tell what caused it, but a short course of Prednisone might help you with the symptoms. It is nothing to ignore given that the eyes are also involved.

It is frustrating since it can be food related, Celiac related, gluten cross contamination, or chemicals in products.

Some people have had DH outbreaks for the first time shortly after going gluten free.

If that is the case, you could limit iodine temporarily to see if it helps.

Have you ever had the rash before? Or DH?

Baking soda baths help.

I hope you figure it out soon.

No, I've never had the rash before.

I've only been gluten free for a short time - so maybe I'm one of those people you mentioned who get DH outbreaks early on in the gluten free transition.

I do actually feel better - the itchiness in my eyes is gone at the moment, and I used some gluten free Dessert Essence lotion, which feels great!

I'll keep a close eye on it & call my Physician for treatment if it lingers or worsens.

Thanks again for the response!

Glad the rash is improving. You might want to go with gluten free toiletries for a bit just to be on the safe side. Some don't need them but lots of us do. I don't know if this is DH that you are experiencing but since you are also experiencing GI issues it may be that you have gotten glutened. Some find Pepto Bismal liquid to be helpful for that stomach pain.

although pepto bismol tastes NASTY--so if you're like me and burp a lot when your stomach is uncomfortable, expect to taste it over and over and get nauseated. <_<

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!
