Embarrassing Question About Endoscopy

Hi!

I called my doc's office but no one has called back and it's towards the end of the day...

I have my endoscopy scheduled for tomorrow morning...does it matter if you are...ummm....how to put it delicatly?...backed up? I'm not sure if that will mess with the test results or if I should take a laxative or something or what. I know you aren't supposed to eat 12 hours beforehand which will be no problem, but it made it wonder if that is the reason why....

Please advise if you know!

I was told you don't eat because the medicine makes some people nauseated and they don't want you throwing up during the procedure. Being backed up shouldn't be an issue as far as the test is concerned.

I believe the reason they tell you to fast for 12 hours before hand is so that your stomach is empty. Being "backed up" may be uncomfortable but wont effect your endoscopy .

Now a colonoscopy is a whole other story ( or end :lol: )

Thank you guys so much! I have been dying to get this overwith and was suddenly struck with the fear that I would be turned away and have to endure another week or 2.

Yes, definitely uncomfortable, but glad to know it doesnt seem to be a deal breaker.

      They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

      In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

      This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

      I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
