An excerpt from a little article I just saw:

"The Serb world No.2 has forsaken pasta, pizza and bread after becoming allergic to gluten."

Here's the article if anyone else wants to have a read:

Hi! I as well played tennis and on a gluten free diet. I had to give up on most foods that I am taking before and boy its working wonders on me. I became faster and attentive in playing the sports. I am no pro but maybe in due time compete with excellent players out there.

I bring an energy bar, a banana and I'm good to go. I've been avoiding Gatorade since I heard it has gluten? Can anyone confirm this? I feel like Novak on the court lol

During a recent interview he said this. Q. We know you have changed your diet from the end of last year. I was wondering what you ate last night and what you ate this morning right before the match, and what are you going to do tonight?

NOVAK DJOKOVIC: I'll give you a simple answer: last night I didn't have any gluten, and tonight I will have a bunch of gluten ? and alcohol.

So Djokovic is not really 100 % gluten free , thanks to people like him our disease will mean a fad diet , oh well hope he the gluten he ate will make him lose everything he won . Del Potro beat him a few days after that interview :) I can't stand 50 % gluten free fad dieters !

I bet he goes 100% weeks before a Grand Slam and also he probably had gluten before he lost to Federer back in France

I bet he doesn't even know what 100 % gluten free means lol . I'm no fan of Federer , but Federer completely outplayed him at the French Open. It had nothing to do with if Djokovic ate gluten before the match lol . I don't believe Djokovic has got a problem with gluten after hearing that interview. He should just go back to normal food and stop making the only treatment for celiac disease look like a fad diet.

Right. Maybe he was joking about eating gluten?

No , I don't think so , but a lot of people were saying on blogs comments like , " eat as much gluten as you like you deserve it " etc . He doesn't do any favour's to celiac's . Sure it's up to him what to eat but know need to brag about it . Now people think Djokovic eats gluten so I should also eat gluten and I don't because i'm just being fussy by eating gluten free .

His fame is making us look bad, lol. Did you notice any improvements on the court after going gluten-free?

Well he makes it look like gluten free diet turns you into a super human lol . I meant him saying he is gluten free but still eats gluten is bad for celiac's . Unfortunately I haven't been able to play tennis for 6 years due to back and other stomach problems . But before I was diagnosed I won a few tournament and after I was diagnosed I didn't have enough energy to play lol . Has being gluten free helped you ?

Sorry for the late answer, yes it has helped me plenty. My muscles used to be really tense from anxiety.

Yeah I think my body is definitely telling me to lay off the alcohol I just don’t seem to agree with it right now but that might be because my gut is still trying to heal.

We are a couple with celiac trying to find a concierge doctor in Palm Beach Gardens/West Palm/ Jupiter area that has knowledge of celiac .  Help!

Thank you so much for your validation. I completely agree with you that the crackers COULD be the culprit even with very small trace amounts (less than 20ppm) and accumulating over time - I am at the point where I am about to request that my son gets retested to make sure that my "control subject" is still testing perfectly lol. I have a meeting with my celiac disease doc tomorrow and will run the crackers by him to see if he is willing to retest in a few weeks. I have not had any of them for the past 3 weeks so far, so fingers crossed, we can retest and hopefully find out if it is them. And no - I have been scouring EVERYTHING to make sure nothing else has changed. Only use gluten-free lip products and toothpaste so not there either (but very good suggestion). Thank you for validating me. I feel like many are just saying "you are not being gluten-free enough - but I do have a perfect 16 year track record that proves otherwise - so has to be something sneaky.

OMG thank you so much for validating me in my "craziness" of being on the hunt for the culprit in my case. "Unfortunately" I do not eat any of the foods you mention, but have stopped eating the crackers that are labeled certified gluten-free to see if they might be the problem. I did NOT know about chicken being injected with gluten liquid - that is horrible!  Hoping my doc will agree to retest after I have been off the crackers for a while. My biggest mystery is - why do I not have ANY symptoms of being cross contaminated or glutened? There is no damage (thank godness) to my villi, and normally I will get canker sores the moment something is even the slightest bit cross contaminated... the hunt continues and I will follow up once I find the answer. Glad you found yours!

Fascinating, thanks! So Canada (at least in 2017) had changed the criteria for detection in oat products from 20 to 5ppm. If the regulation still stands in 2025 then that would mean that any product sold in Canada that contains oats and is claimed to be gluten-free must (theoretically) test less than 5ppm...
