I could use your help with ideas for new side dishes I can try. I have always been a meat and potatoes guy b4gf and still enjoy my steaks, chicken, turkey..., but am growing tired of the same sides, (rice,3-4 days a week, potatoes 2-3 days a week) and maybe oreida fries or gluten-free pasta (very $$) once in a while. I also have my share of veggies and fruit throughout the day. I know this is the place to get answers and would very much appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Summer is here (unless you're down under) and you have lots to choose from. Do you have a farmers market near? We have snap beans (southern for string beans), butter beans, field peas, may peas, acorn squash, yellow squash, zucchini, broccoli, to name a few. Chef salads, with deviled eggs with left over grilled meat. And.... my all time favorite, corn on the cob, off the cob, bbq'd, creamed, grilled, in your salad, in salsa...heck, in ANYTHING.

Fresh fruit salads. OH did I mention I love fresh local corn!?

And check out the recipe thread or "What are you cooking tonight" thread...lots of options.

It sounds like you are trying to fill the starch portion of the plate, right?

beans & lentils: baked beans, three bean salad, lentil salad, greek giant beans (gigantes, usually in tomato sauce), refried beans, etc

grains: quinoa (try a pilaf, or salad), buckwheat (kasha is usually readily available, or whole groats), polenta, millet (easiest to make as a porrige like polenta), hominy, creamed corn, risotto, wild rice, homemade cornbread

starchy veg: sweet potatoes, white potatoes, turnips, parsnips, winter squash/pumpkin, plaintain, green papaya

That's my list for now. Do you need actual recipes, or just brainstorming?

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
