My 11 year old grand daughter who is gluten-free with asthsma had a reaction to a pear. This is the same reaction she gets from bananas and lemonade. Would anyone have a clue what is in these that could be causing the rection?

What kind of reaction are you speaking of? GI? Hives?

My DS has something called FPIES to bananas. It's not an allergy but it DOES send him into shock.

Something to consider seriously with a reaction to bananas is latex allergy. Bananas are a strong cross-reactor with latex. Does she get "band-aid" marks from band-aids(non-latex-free ones)? An allergist can do a skin test. Latex allergy is also associated with asthma. It would be inportant to find out because with latex allergy there are many things that should be avoided, esp. in a medical setting but also in our everyday world. My son and I are latex allergic. I used to get red band-aid marks but if I use latex-free no mark at all!

Thanks, I will take a look at the link.

It definitely sounds like an allergy. My son has a banana allergy. There are actually two different forms of banana allergies. One causes hives and what most people think of as the typical allergic reaction. The other causes a GI reaction which involves vomiting after exposure. My son has the 2nd form. From what I was told the latex link is a lot more common with the GI reaction. I'd investigate it either way though. FWIW, it does not appear that my son reacts to latex, at least not yet. He's only 10 months old though.

Here's a link that explains the different reactions. Open Original Shared Link

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.
