My son is 6 and has Asperger's and we believe is also ADHD. He's been on a gluten and caesin free diet for 4 weeks now. It's been fantastic, with dramatically improved behavior. His grandfather let him eat chicken nuggets and he threw up that night. Ever since (5 days ago), he's had diarreha, tummy aches, slept alot, and worst of all insane crazy behavior!! Are these typical symptoms for this situation? How long will this last? Should I take him to the doctor? Does he need supplements? Help- I'm so worried!

Welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your son.

Two things come to mind. First, it sounds an awful lot like food poisoning. If he's still having diarrhea some Pedialyte would probably do him good. I'd call the doctor if he doesn't improve soon.

The other thing is that once we're gluten-free, reactions to gluten can really worsen. Around the message board we think your immune system finally gets to work normally instead of being under constant stress from gluten. Unfortunately that means you get a big "kill the intruder!" reaction from gluten. It can go on for as long as two weeks in people who are really sensitive. Unfortunately, chicken nuggets is a lot of gluten so it may take a while to get back out of his system.

Your Dr. can recommend something to help the diarrhea and stomach aches, whether it's food poisoning or gluten. You also want to put him on clear liquids, and possibly a little applesauce, white rice, or bananas if they don't make his stomach hurt. (BRAT diet) I don't know what to use for kids, but personally I find Pepto-Bismol very helpful when I've got an upset stomach.

Yes those could be symptoms from it. The symptoms vary person to person in length. My 5 yr old daughter gets stomach pains and her behavoir is differant when she is glutened. I get diarhea as one of my symptoms and throw up a couple days when i get gluten. She also got better with her behavior and speaks more than before she went gluten-free. Though she still has a speech delay. If he is still throwing up you could try giving him liquids like jello and broth till he can keep it down. If you think hes got vitamin defecemcies thantake him to get those tested. Also if he he is still throwing up and having diareha then he might need some iv fluids to keep him hydrated. I hope he gets feeling better soon.

But M&M's contain milk, and would not be at all like a Tootsie Roll.

I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver. After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I see it everyday on my feeds.  They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts.  I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field.  Some days I would just like to scream.  So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach them properly. I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
